I sent an item to USA on 12th May with An Post.

Looked up the tracing today on AN Post website.

It was received in Great Britain on 13th May and has got no further.

Is this normal???? And why did it go to Great Britain and not directly to USA?

I don't know why it was sent to the Great Britain first but items that I send to the USA usually take about 10 days to get to their destination.

When sending anything out of the country the AnPost tracking site relies on update information being sent back to it by foreign postal carriers in order to provide updates. Not all foreign carries send this information back to AnPost, so they are probably unable to present any updates to you. Often the only feedback will be after the delivery. So, you see the item leave Ireland and then there is no update until a week or two later when the item has been delivered.

You may be able to see some results if you enter your tracking number into the USPS tracking site at https://tools.usps.com/go/TrackConfirmAction!input.action

    Thanks for the reply.

I rang An Post Customer service. They reckoned it was sent to Britain by mistake. They could see that it left Britain.

They then looked on UPS and could see it was received in USA today. Might get to the receiver tomorrow.
