I have got a 1996 Micra and the engine has gone ( cooked ) , I'm looking at a 2nd hand one complete, the story is though, one i have is automatic, one I'm buying is manual , wil they marry or will it be a nightmare and a lot of messing about , any input greatly appreciated, ta jim

Would you not be better off just buying a march jap import?

I can't see why it wouldn't tbh. What year is the one you got?

they were cg10de all that way from 92-02 roughly speaking so physically they should join perfectly. i'd be wary if the engine you're getting is out of a much newer car, there may be some subtle alterations to sensors or wiring, but nothing that's too difficult to overcome.

you may have to change the driveshafts, and hubs also ,depending on size of
    shafts/number of splines etc ...

Not if you're leaving in the original autobox.

The difference between the engine from a manual and one from an auto is the throttle body/ intake system, and the flywheel. Both of which can and should be swapped from the original engine to the new engine. Not that big of a job with an engine crane and ramp, but could still be done 'kerbside' from someone who knows what they're at.

once it came out of a 93-98 prefacelift model it will fit, just swap over the throttle body and flywheel etc and away you go

No, the 99 is the newer model and it wont mate up to your gearbox as the bellhousing is different, you need a pre 98 engine.

ok i just had a look at the engine numbers and ( on mine ) it starts with cg10, and the one i am collecting is cg10 , that means the blocks are from the same hold ??? or am i wrong ?? Scrap_man has me confused now ?

once the one you are removing and the one you are re-fitting are both cg10de, then i'd be 99% sure it's fine.

ok guys heres the latest, stripped engine down , unbolted all the bell housing nuts , nothing holding them together, split real easy, BUT carnt get the engine out , not enough room for the flywheel and clutch to clear bell housing . Looks like no alternative but to go under and undo the gearbox, and all. then raise the front end of car to get at them . any suggestions ??? I'm really trying to avoid all that, as the jobs a nightmare already , thanks

have you undone the bolts on the torque converter? you will get them either from where you took out the starter or else from underneath behind the small sandwhich plate between the engine and box.

every nut is out , there just is no room to get it out , clutch and flywheel need about another inch , but there is not even a millimetre at the other side

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 152 ✭✭jimb43

of course if its so hard to get it out , then its going to be too hard to get it back in , as i have to line the clutch up ect ect, i must have to drop the box ??? i don't know all advice greatly appreciated

thanks i have done that i wait and see if anyone help me

You will have to take the box out to get it back in, You might get the engine out on its own if you take off the crank pulley, waterpump and alternater, but you will have a nightmare to get it back in with the box in place

i sorted it out lads thanks
i had to take the front end of the car , complete bumper lights rad, and cross member where bonnet latch is , this left a gaping hole , i undid the gearbox from its brackets so it could move about , this enabled me to push the box to the right 3 inches and the engine come out with space to spare bit of a drama but done now thanks lads for all your input jim
