How to apply for social welfare?

Hello, I am just wondering if people can help me out here. After looking and failing for ages to find summer jobs,
due to only having TY experiance on my CV, I decided to look into just going on social welfare just for the summer months as I need to start saving soon for a lot of things. I am at college at the moment, and just finished my 1st year.
I thought you had to be doing absolutely nothing to apply for it, no job or education, but I heard from my landlady that her friend's sons are getting it and they are at college too.

Since I am in no way familiar with this system, I am just wondering how it works? Would it be possible for me to get it at all in the summer and how much do you get per week or month? I am 21 and I heard somewhere that it is 100 per week when your over 21, but that could be wrong. I looked at the website, but I don't know what category I would fall under for benefits.

Any help is appreciated thank you.

unless less you are not going back to college next year (even then there is a waiting period) it's not possible

Yes if your dropping out completely you can get a letter from your college to confirm this and then be means tested for the dole.

In order to qualify for sw in the summer you have to be 23 years of age on the 1st January prior to commencing college. There isnt any waiting period (only first 3 days which is the norm). Waiting period only applies to those who have finished or dropped out of secondary education then there is a 3 month waiting period before you can apply.
