Personality traits

    Hey folks,
I am doing a little research for some writing and came upon a bit of a problem.
I am trying to find some overall traits/umbrellas/labels for faculties of the mind.

But I am looking for about 3-5 traits or types of modes that are different from each other and represent the minds various ways of thinking.

I started a quick search for the different personality types, but there was something like 16.
Then I discovered on wiki, the idea of traits instead.
    The Five Factor Model(FFM).

But I have a question, as this seems wrong to me or incomplete.

The Big Five factors are openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism.

Does this mean they are saying that introversion is a negative trait, or is it just bound up with the extraversion trait to save space?
I notice agreeableness mentioned and the polar opposite seems like a negative trait. The same might be said for opposite of openness.

Either way this FFM seemed at first a good way to collect my 3-5 modes, but I don't think I am satisfied using them.

Lets just say the modes I'm looking for, are going to be used to represent cultures in an archetypal way if possible.
I could play on each of those five, by highlighting each one with its opposite though.
But some clarification or ideas would be helpful, thanks.

"Negative" is subjective, and isn't really suggested as a consideration by Costa and McCrae. The big 5 are just given descriptive titles - Extraversion could just as easily have been called Introversion. Also, they're scales, with many different facets involved in each trait.

I believe the FFM has been standardised across the world, so should be suitable for what you're looking for.

There's no one correct answer. Some suggest there's 3 global traits, most say 5, a lot of people thought 16 sounded about right. But for the moment, the FFM is the gold standard.

Thanks for the reply. I thought that was the case regaridng the negative/positive connotations.
I had heard until recently that introversion was considered in some feilds as an issue or personality disorder. And so I wanted to make sure this is not considered so in the FFM.
Now I just need to figure how these traits could be better expressed through fictional cultures.
    All ideas welcome.
Maybe there is some research I can draw from, to do this.
In a way I am not exactly sure what I'm searching for or how to go about this, which is most of the problem :)

I not sure about this statement. but I have read some research that points to high scores on the neurotic scale, and low scores on the agreeableness scale as correlation with PD'S
