At 40+ MB the Android one looks bloated. Try Google Translate (~3MB). Quite good. I'd hope though that the app would be clever enough to detect the source language and translate to your preferred language.

The advantage of this one is that you do not need a data connection for it to work, hence the larger file size.

Thanks, this is a class app

Make sure you purchase the language packs ASAP before they go up in price. The app for iphone is always free.

That will come in handy on the holliers. Thanks OP.

Agreed. This is a very cool app. I'm studying (yawn) protein assays and using my iphone camera to zoom in on text, then choose a language to 'see' it in makes this module far more entertaining haha. So be sure and make those in-app purchases ASAP.

Are the language packs already included in the Android version, or do they have to be bought separately?

I changed the title of the thread to include Android.

V3 has the language packs included. Note- the Portuguese doesn't seem to recognise Brazilian Portuguese (if anyone is planning a trip to South America......)

Brazilian Portugese is very different to Iberian Portugese.

    That is very impressive

I'll probably never use it. And even if the opportunity does come up I'll probably only think of the app hours later.

    But it is very impressive.

Very odd. I can see this app in the Google Play store when I look at it from your link on an ipad - but I cannot see it when I search for translate, translator or Word Lens on my Android phone.

Pretty sure Apps not compatible with your Android device will fail to appear in a search on the Play Store App. What device are you using out of interest?

Yeah, they don't. If you look at the web interface via a PC when logged in it should show your devices and if its greyed out it doesn't work.

Turned this on a few minutes ago and I must say this is seriously cool :D

Very very few apps (Shazam being one) have really stood out for me since Smartphones have been introduced to our daily lives - but this level of technological advancement truly impresses me. (I mean, it keeps the same font for the translated text! :p)

As a lover of languages, I can see myself using this a great deal in the future.

Thanks for the heads up OP.

Yes you are right - it is incompatible. I have a Sony Xperia Tipo ST21i with Android 4.0.4. Maybe it hasn't got enough processing power, or the camera is not good enough.

I learned a lot about Google Play today - like that it keeps track of your purchases for free future reloads or for loading onto multiple devices, and that you can "push" an app to the android device while browsing on your PC. Neat.

It's your ancient version of Android, very few new or existing apps are going to be compatible with something that old. Android is currently at version 4.4.2 Kit Kat. L

You can also download language packs for Google Translate but they're over 200 MB each.
