    Hey guys,
I want to wire in a 3.5 mm audio jack to connect my phone to my head unit.
    The unit is a w58814.
I have read that I can do this through the cd changer port but need some help.
If anyone knows how to do it for this model that would be ideal, however I will be able to use a writeup from a similar model and get the pinout for my unit.

Just to make myself clear, I am aware that I can buy pre build units and interfaces but I don't want to do this.

I want a diy job and am capable of doing this.

Car is a 2006 corolla btw

    Thanks guys,

    Tommy

Is the back of your stereo the same as this?
    http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/1PCS-Aux-cable-MP3-input-audio-cable-for-toyota-corolla-camry/215081_1342270071.html

If so the pic of the plug would give you the answers to which pins are used.

I was of the opinion that the cable needs to tell the headunit via a control box that its a cd changer. That may be just a presumption though.

It is indeed however I wouldn't go off a picture like that. That picture could be off a completely different model.
You're right but you're wrong at the same time with the interface idea. Some cars can be connected without one with the proper know how :)

    Thanks

That doesn't make him wrong, though. Different cars work differently, but in the majority of cases I have come across he is correct.

Anyway, it very much depends on the car. You should easily be able to Google what pins do what with the radio code you supplied. Assuming for a moment that the headunit has to recognise that there is a changer for you to select that option:

If you already have a CD changer, a CD with one long blank track can be used to switch the head unit to the changer for a long time. You can simply intercept the audio outputs of the changer with the new jack cable if you want a rough and ready solution while keeping the CD changer option open. You could wire in a switch if you wanted to be fancy. Or you could snip them and lose use of the CD changer in favour of what you want to plug in.

If you don't have a CD changer, find an acceptable interface online and see what it does with respect to the pins to find out what signal the headunit expects. You could wire in an appropriate switch to "activate" this aux system and allow the headunit to be tricked.

Off the top of my head, the interface cable would have to reroute a voltage out of the headunit back into the CD changer monitor pin or connect that pin to the ground of the audio cable, but that is thinking over a cup of tea and bourbons.
