    do you watch any?

Before the days of on demand service I used to watch them ahead of sports.

A humorous memory I have is a friend of mine working out in the gym with EastEnders on the plasma and one of the locals walked in and said 'you're not watching that auld shy*e are ye?'
'awe not at all haha' and turned it over

and then the fellow left the room he turned it back on again

Yes I watch Corrie and Emmerdale. Wouldn't watch them religiously, but enough to know what's going on.

Expect to encounter quite a lot of tv snobbbery on this thread though, OP. The inellectuals of AH will be out in force ;)

I haven't watched a soap since Benny Hawkins went to put the fairy on the Christmas tree and never came back down.

First one was The Colbys, second one was Dallas (which has recently been resurrected from the dead too).

Why is there no poll option for "I Don't Watch Soaps, But I Don't Think People Who Do Are Fools?"

Must admit I watch Fair City the odd time to get a glimpse of Niamhs bosoms :D

Used to watch them all at one time or another, but don't have the time to now. Every now and then, a storyline might start up that gets me watching again for a little while but in general, I don't watch them at all. Still know what's going on most of the time though from the TV pages in the RTÉ Guide etc.

There is ALWAYS someone screaming or breaking down crying in them, for that reason I don't watch. I get enough of that shíte from the family.

    Soaps are absolutely mind numbing.

They're stupid stories for people that cannot think of anything better to do and what's worse is that they are stories that are drawn from a very shallow well, populated by about 10 scenarios, that usually revolve around somebody fucking somebody that they shouldn't be.

What's worse is that these "stories" are repeated, not only on a regular basis on one soap, but across them all at varying times.

Occasionally, I'll view parts of Eastendcorronationfarmstreet and I am always appalled at how shit they are and how repetitive the "stories" are.

In short, they're gossip television for women.

Why do people waste away 3 hours of their life on average watching soaps?

I watch Corrie and Hollyoaks. Not religiously, but fairly often.

Fuck it, sometimes I don't want to watch something 'intellectual' and am quite happy watch ****e.

FFS there's more than enough drama in real life without getting worked up over made up stuff!

Used to watch Neighbours about 20 years ago, at lunchtime when on school holidays. If it was **** weather, I'd watch Columbo afterwards. Then they replaced Columbo with Diagnosis Murder, so Neigbours wasn't worth scheduling time for anymore.
Dick Van Dyke stopping me watching the only soap opera I ever watched.
