What would be the best way to set up a milking parlour with 2'6" centers? Staggered rump rail or staggered feeders or straight concrete feeders and stalls? Just want to know which would be best for restricting cow movement.

I have one with straight rails front and back and wouldn't recommend.

Only my opinion but I think staggered troughs are better. Sure some will disagree. Just think they are better for individual feeding and less movement

Same here staggered indivual steel troughs and a staggered rump rail. It works well with different size cows .

Have you the width to go to 2'2" centres, while keeping a decent width of pit? When they are straight on, and with a head bail, they aren't going anywhere. can't use any of your old milk line, however, if you are keeping the same machine.

I know sam that your looking at 2 6" but just for info, we are on 2 3", straight rump rails, and conc troughs. Have head bails fitted, but rarely ever use them, at spring abit for heifers.
If your cows are small they will very straight which some people like but for us our cows are large and are angled more and little or no movement . very happy and works well.

Very hard for op to take anything from this. There is a few different set ups that people are using and there probably isn't anything wrong with any of them, just what people are used to!! Milk in a good few parlours is the only thing you can do.

No I wouldn't have the width to go 2'2" centers as the parlour is only 18' wide. The pit is slightly less than 6' and cow standing is 6'1" from wall to edge of the pit.

What is the width for cow from wall to edge of pit with 2'3" centers? I could narrow the pit to 4'. Would you need a greater width for cow standing when you use concrete troughs instead of steel troughs as the steel troughs are angled to the wall?

Best way to control movement is headlocks

Measurement from conc troughs to inside of kerb is 1625mm .Folded Kerb @ 45mm Our troughs are 750mm out from wall. You may be able to use 600mm thus gaining 150mm.
    Hope this might help
