Car advice. Audi a4 - flywheel and gearbox

    Car advise

I brought my car for a service last week. Audi a4 automatic.
The garage did a full service and ran a diagnostic.

They have told me that the flywheel is broken and the gear box needs to refurbished. Total cost including labour is 3K.

The flywheel I understand as I did have a rattle at startup. But I haven't noticed any issue with the gear box.

    So my question is
Should I get a second opinion?
And if I do get it fixed, should I get rid of it.
I don't mind spending the money on it if it lasts me another 2 years without spending more money.!

    Thanks in advance

    What year and engine?

Is it multitronic, DSG or a conventional slushbox?

In any of the three, flywheel failure doesn't usually lead to a gearbox problem unless it's extremely bad.

Did you go to a main dealer or an independent? If the former, then I'd certainly seek a second opinion if only because it'd be a cheaper quote. I'd suggest finding a transmission specialist to get their opinion on the 'box too.

    It's 07 TDI 2.0 multitronic millage is 140k.
I went to an independent, and they will have to send the gear box to a specialist

Multitronics are unfortunately known for giving trouble.
