I've been doing it successfully now for about 3 and a half months. I'm on their 4g service so get about 30mb speeds and my average usage is is in the region of 200gb. This is unlimited data I get from my 20 euro a month top up.

I haven't done it in a long time but when I used to they never said anything.

It's not like in America where the networks actually black out the option to turn on tethering and you have to pay extra to get it!

I remember seeing a post somewhere that said 3 "frown" upon it but they don't actually do anything to stop it.

And with speeds like that I can't really blame you! :P

Work away while you can, definitely. Their fair usage policy says it's 15GB, but if you're getting away with it and able to avail of 4g then keep her lit!

If I bought something like this,
    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/UNLOCKED-ALCATEL-Y800-3G-4G-MiFi-Mobile-WiFi-Broadband-Router-Dongle-E5332-E586-/310948052796
And then got a 3 4G sim card, would it work?

Sorry for hijacking this thread btw :p

Yep, provided you're in a 4g area. You may have to enter in a few details like apn and such, but nothing mad.

    Yup.
Luckily I live in Carlow where we can get UPC, Fibre and 4G from all networks that offer it! :D

It's true it does state that it's 15GB in their terms and conditions however, when I log into my "my3" account it says I've 2 terrabytes...

I have been with them for over 5 years though, so maybe that's how I've gotten away with it?

    Surely they know...

It didn't realise that it was against the rules. I use it all the time at my parents house when I am there. There is no Internet otherwise.

Why would tethering be frowned upon? Once you're within the fair usage then its none of their business whats connected.

Yes and no, its much easier to burn data with a fully fledged laptop or desktop than it is with a phone. If everyone started tethering and using it for the home connection the cells would be completely overloaded, they're designed for on the go usage, not constant netflix streams all day.
