    Hi

I signed up to sky last year.

I was put on the sky connect package as I wasn't in a sky area.

    However,

I have just discovered now that the cheaper sky broadband is now available in my area. exchange must have been upgraded recently or something. But sky are telling that I can't change over to the cheaper option. Only new customers can.

Does this make any sense that I am stuck on the sky connect package even though it is no longer available??

I have checked this for you. Your exchange has been upgraded and the line speed is returning as 12 megabits per second. We cannot switch you straight over. We will need to cancel your Broadband and phone and then reorder it. It can take upto 14 days for your line to deactivate and then 14 days for your line to reappear in the database. It will then take 3 days for our phone service to be restored and then 7 days for your Broadband. You will also have a new number.

This is the only way to change your Broadband product from Connect to Unlimited.

Thats crazy. All they need to do is submit a regrade order to Eircom and have you jumpered over onto the new DSLAM. Even if its LLU then all they have to do has have their own contractors do it. Doesn't make sense.

been on to the forum too with no help
    forum.sky.com/t5/Broadband-Talk/sky-unlimited-and-sky-connect-unlimited/td-p/1977452

called them directly first and they said it would make line unsteady, think their talking crap.

was going to change in October if they still haven't launched fibre. just became available in my town this month

I definitely don't want to change my number.

My partner lives in northern Ireland and when he went to change from bt to sky they had to give him a new line and number the same thing happened when went to upgrade to fibre. they had to cancel the line and give him a new line and a new phone. seems standard procedure in UK.

I hope I have no problem keeping my number when i change

Can you get into your sky hub and get the line stats? That'll tell us what speed you can get and if a higher package might cause problems.

Having this issue as well. On the Sky Connect Unlimited package (up to 7Mb), but exchange has been upgraded / changed / something and I can now get Sky Broadband Unlimited (up to 24 Mb). They won't let me though! I have to cancel and rejoin as a new customer! TBF, anyone I have talked to in Sky reckons it's bananas, but them's the rules apparently.....
