I have found one possible solution online involving WD-40 and baking soda. Does anyone have a confirmed method for removing those black engine oil-style stains?

i was going to say ask a lady of a certain vintage as they seem to know all answers in regards to stain removal but go with 25sean's response.

Vanish soap on all stains before wash. A few drops of water and work it into the stain. Never fails.

WD40 on a clean rag. Job done.

I use WD40, then wash it off with citrus degreaser, then rinse.

If you have some waterproof eye make-up remover in the house it works a treat. Something like Simple Eye make up remover it's sometimes available your local Lidl.

Apply some to a cotton pad, place another pad underneath the stain to absorb the liquid and dab. The stain will dissolve and was the garment afterwards. It also works to get chain marks off legs.

Ya there or any hardware type shop. Every home should Swarfega. I wouldn't use tooth brush though, jersey threads could snag.
