Problem streaming DM500 in Windows 8.1

I have a DM 500 in the bedroom connected to my home network via ethernet cable (Router in attic) so I can stream all around the house and outside into the garden/summer house.

I updated 1 of my laptops to windows 8.1 from XP/Linux and since ive updated im struggling to stream properly via VLC or other media players. XBMC seems ok though (But don't like XBMC as it wont run in the background).

The problem I'm having is with VLC every so often it loops the stream, Thus goes back 10 seconds and loops.

I've tried adjusting the buffering (Cache) time, but nothing helps. Just wondering if there is a bug in Windows 8.1 or even the new version of VLC?

I could try an older version of VLC, I think im using the newest version 2.1.3.

    It's a known Windows 8.1 bug I'm afraid.

DreamboxEDIT, streaming and FTP all a problem for me when I upgraded.

I went straight back to Windows 8.

Thanks so much. I thought it had to be a 8.1 problem as I've a win 7 machine (battery no good) which is fine when streaming. I was using Linux for a good while but I was finding audio sync was very tempremental so moved back to windows and to 8.1 as I've oldish machines which run 8.1 very well.

I've had a few tell me it has to be my machine - funny how everything runs perfectly when I'm on Windows 8! A quick google reveals it's a known bug.

Anyway, if you can run Windows 8 instead you should have no issues.

Windows 7 is slow on my older machines, could just go back to windows xp, but I was getting to like windows again in 8.1 format. Shame.

Xbmc (gotham) seems to stream OK in windows 8.1, kids been watching Disney junior for last hour in their bedroom with no problems.

I found SD streaming via WebIF worked ok, HD was a non-starter.

Haven't tried streaming my DM800 as its connected via wifi to my router and not via ethernet cable. I know when ive tried before its patchy because then its transferring twice over the wifi network and not too efficient. I use the DM500 as its not often used on a TV and mainly for watching around the house on laptops when and wherever we want!!

SD streaming on wifi is generally ok if you have a good signal. HD is a non-runner unless you are on wireless-n or ac and there are no other b/g stations dragging it down.

Yeah I've found HD streaming is hit and miss anyhow. SD is more than OK on a laptop. I have my router in attic with 3rd party software installed and higher gain antennas. Have a fantastic coverage, up to 500m around our land.

Streaming seems OK for a radius of about 150m on my cell phone anyhow and even in the basement 4 floors below.
