Feel like I have ran out of options

Hello. I've noticed that a lot of posts which mention suicide get deleted or censored fairly regularly so I'll begin by saying that suicide will be mentioned in my post, however, I have no plans to kill myself in the foreseeable future.

I am 20 years old and have been suffering from depression for some time, as well as anxiety (SAD, GAD). Last year I reached out and talked to my GP, I was put on medication and eventually started seeing a therapist. Initially it was more geared towards my anxiety and CBT was the approach, however, after a few sessions the therapist said that my depression was quite severe and that it would be difficult to make much progress as my motivation and energy was so low. Sleeping was/is a problem for me.

The antidepressants were having a negative effect on me so I switched to another type and after upping the dose they seemed to work somewhat. My motivation and energy is/was still very low and my general apathy still remained but with the antidepressants suicidal thoughts were much less frequent whereas before they were daily and a lot of research had been done towards various methods.

Over the last while the antidepressants have been having reduced effect and these thoughts are coming back. I've been having a lot of negative feelings lately and this coupled with poor academic performances has left me very low.

I feel as if I have nowhere to turn. It's like I open a door and there is no one on the other side. I constantly hear about all the options available for people with mental health issues but really there isn't many options at all. Medication and therapy has been ineffective for me, and I have come to believe that my problems are caused genetically.

I don't where I am to turn now? I don't know what to do.

    Hi OP,

I have read through your thread a few times now to get an overall picture of the situation, and seeing that you are currently on medication for your depression, which had been working up until recently, and now the antidepressants have been having reduced effect and these thoughts are coming back, I really feel that the only course of action in this case is to speak to your GP and therapist again.

With the best will in the world, people will post advice here, and I feel that any advice that you might take from here would interfere with the course of action outlined above. SO please, first speak to your GP or therapist about your medication being less effective and see what they can do for you, and then afterwards please feel free to post back here for support. For now, thread closed.

    Regards,
    Mike
