If it's for media transcoding, depending on what you're using, you might be better off with an i3/i5 build. AVX is usually faster than even CUDA accelerated transcoding.

    Thanks for the reply!

It will only be minor media transcoding really, my 2gb machine can deal with it no problem!

I was hoping to stick to amd as their processors seem to have a higher raw spec than the Intel price equivalent.

Unless you are playing games, integrated video is perfectly fine for everything else and won't become outdated anytime soon.

AMD CPU's are good value for money but they are slower than their Intel counterparts in general. But if your current machine is fine for your usage, then the Fx6300 is going to still be a huge upgrade and its still very respectable.

Again if you're not playing games at all, then you're wasting money with that GTX750ti (or any video card really). Would be much better spent on a faster processor.

That power supply seems a bit suspect to me, I'm sure it would be fine for an office build but if you are going to take that GTX750Ti card/play games, you might want to look at something better. This would be a minimum really I would say.

Could also save a bit on the motherboard by going for a 970 rather than the 990 unless you have a reason for that.

That's an interesting link, thanks! It seems that the 6300 wins out on media encoding with those tests though? Would the 6 cores allow better multitasking, eg torrent running, media transcoding, and Web browsing, or would the i3 do just as good a job?

I have revised my build today, and sacrificed a decent gfx card for an upgraded processor. I kept a higher quality motherboard, as the cheaper ones that worked well with the 8350 did not have usb 3.0 headers...

Is this looking like a good multimedia and browsing build or have I gone the wrong direction? USB 3 on the front is important, and I might try a little over clocking in the future. I also plan to run a virtual machine or 2 with virtual box

Honestly i think your mobo+cpu would be overkilled for your multitasking/home use purposes. Spending 270e on that you might as well go i5. My suggestion is that do some research on i3/i5/new pentium cpu (G3240 etc, these new cpus are seriously cheap but perform almost/equally to i3) to see what kind of cpus suits your level of multitasking. Honestly i wont be even bothered to get i5 if i dont use intensive amount of multitasking+some demanding graphic/video editing apps.

If you dont do gaming I would skip the graphic card, onboard graphic can run HD movies perfectly nowadays. Save the money as much as you can, get a sweet casing and build another powerful machine if you wished.

Front usb depends on your casing and most ATX/mATX mobos come with usb3.0 header anyway.

I would definitely go i5 and you can get a motherboard for about 50-60 euro, that setup you have there is very overkill for your use, the 8350 is a very hot running CPU and that board would be aimed towards overclocking it further.

You can get a decent i5 and a suitable board for 70 euro less than the combined cost of those AMD parts and the performance will be as good or better in general. Just make sure that the board you choose has a USB3 header, some of the cheaper ones don't.

Drop the video card altogether, the onboard video of the i5 is 100% perfect for anything media related, now or in the future. That's another expense saved, the AMD combo doesn't have onboard video and needs a card, which would bring the saving by going intel up to €100+ in your case.

I also would look at a nicer case personally, though that one will be fine.

You should look at nice tidy mAtx cases like the Zalman T3 or T4, or at the higher end, the Prodigy M is beautiful and compact.
