I like Clonezilla. Some SSDs come with bundled software. However a clean install is usually preferred.

Thanks. It's a crucial 240GB SSD so no bundled software.

I'm using W8.1 btw, will that make a difference?

When you do a fresh install of a modern OS it configures itself for an SSD to minimise writes, enabling things like TRIM etc. if you just clone your current installation you're going to have to do all that yourself.

If your current installation is pretty clean it shouldn't be too much of an issue. My preference is a clean install usually.

I am considering cloning my W8.1 to migrate to SSD though Acer tell me it will invalidate my warranty.
Does the UEFI bios complicate the process? I understand that some elements of W8 are in the pre boot environment.

Have you checked the SSD in the BIOS.
