Hi, looking for a entry level road bike for my 12 year old 5'3" (160cm) son. I was checking out some bikes and the old version of the Btwin Triban 3 (the red one) gets great reviews for the money. Decathlon have it on their website for £250, but when I rang the store in Belfast they only had a few of them in size 45 in limited stock numbers and I think my son will need a 51. They have the new model (white) for £299 in stock at that size and will deliver for £15. I read they dropped the carbon fork and changed the gearing on the new model, but not sure if it's made them any worse for it. I'm not that well up on gearing, carbon forks and other running gear,so all input welcome.

What do you guys think of it for the money? http://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-3-road-bike-white-id_8239800.html

    Anyone have one?

Would missing the carbon forks make much of a difference to a young lad starting out?

Are there any others I should be looking at?

Don't want to spend a fortune and have already used up the cycle to work scheme on a Giant defy 2 for myself.

    Thanks
