hi i signed up for standard broadband with eircom on 1 year contract at start of this year and was told they would upgrade me for free if efibre was available. i was told few weeks ago that it is available now but will have to sign new 18 month contract at 50 euro per month if i want it,i was wondering is there anything new in the pipeline with other companies like vodafone or sky that maybe i should wait out my year contract and then switch .i hate signing up to anything more than a years contract just in case better deals come out in meantime, any advise would be appreciated

Vodafone offer broadband alone for €35 per month, but there will be no major changes in the next few years in m opinion. The focus now is on getting efibre to as people as possible.

Sky could join the fibre market but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Are you happy with Eircom and their service? If yes, then 50 is not bad. I'm leaving Vodafone as their coverage is crap in my area. Cheap doesn't always pay!

If your exchange is now fibre ready, you could get fibre broadband from Vodafone or O2 instead of Eircom. Both are a bit cheaper. Other companies can probably do it too. You could try Magnet, i think they have a no contract option on broadband packages, not sure if its available yet on Eircom fibre lines though.

I have Vodafone Fibre for €40 a month and I couldn't be happier.

Yes it is an 18 month contract though.

You could join Magnet as they do no contract for €47 a month I think.

40 euro a month is not bad. Just so hard to wait til contract is up at end of year when u know u can have lightning quick broadband available now. I only get round five or six meg broadband at present. Thanks for tips
