Lost expired licence dilemma

    Hi folks,
I've looked through the stickies but not finding an answer to my dilemma, so perhaps someone can help.

My 2nd provisional licence, as it used to be, is lost, cannot find it anywhere in the house, and not only lost but expired and will be outside the five year rule this coming June so I want to keep it up to date. Now I know in order to be able to get my third licence (learner permit) I have to have applied for my driving test - however, I took a quick look at the online process and the checklist states that I have to have my learner permit to do this.
I have the forms signed by the gardai stating that I've lost my old licience as I have an appointment with the NDLS next week to renew and apply for my third licence but because it's my third and final one I also have to have proof that I have applied for my driving test.
I don't want to go through the process online of booking a driving test only to find that because I don't currently have a learner permit I cant - but I don't want to go to the NDLS and have them tell me that I have to have applied for the driving test before they issue me with my final permit....
Anyway, long winded, sorry, but is there a solution, can anyone advise?
Thanks in advance, perhaps I'm just overthinking things....:(

You can just apply on line with no learner permit as long as you know your driver number.

Contact the NDLS folks. Give them your name, address, date of birth & PPS number and they will be able to give you the driver number of your expired learner permit. That is all you need to apply for your driving test.

    +1

And you can defer the test twice before losing your fee. It's only for the actual test itself that you need to have the permit with you. And there is no limit to the number of times you can renew a permit. If you fail, you will get a 2 year permit, otherwise a 1 year.

A quicker way to get your Driver No. would be to be to “Login Using PPSN” at https://booking.ndls.ie/ as if you wanted to book an appointment. After providing your details at the first step of the process, their web-site displays your driver number on the following page.

Only kidding - that's good to know - it's sorted now but there was a moment of stress there.
    Thanks again
