Hi! The Giro arrives in Dublin tomorrow, after which the riders, teamcars, entourage etc all fly down to Southern Italy.

Any idea what airline/aircraft will fly them down?
Any idea what time they fly at?

Funnily enough it's not. Air contractors yellow a/c (EISTA) based in DUB is sick at the moment so that's a hire in to cover some B&S flights.

I believe they are travelling on an A321 & A330.
A330 belongs to Thomas Cook but I have received conflicting reports on the A321 one said FlyNiki the other Thomas Cook. They are departing on Monday morning at 08:00 & 08:30

Most of the team maintenance vehicles have to go by ferry and then zip across Europe to be in place for the resumption of the event, which is quite a tight schedule when they are departing Dublin tonight.

You should the SIZE of some of the coaches! Some are over 20 tonnes!

There is a helicopter that follows the race, what happens when they pass the airport coming into dublin.
Know gardai have to be dealing with somethin serious to get it closed. Is this big enough?

ATC should be able to work up a 10 or so minute window with no landings. They still could do take-offs with little issue given the current wind direction.

Afaik, they don't need to have the heli overhead all the time. I fairly sure there's an uplink from the motorbikes too as well as from the heli. This uplink gets loaded to the Beechcraft providing top cover. It's ASR251 on flighradar24.com at 23000ft circling all day over the action. Right now it's over Csatlebellingham.

Helis were AS355s G-NETW and G-NETR operated by PDG - usually on contract to Network Rail in the UK, hence the regs. OSPREY callsigns.

Viking A333 OY-VKG arriving in Dublin now ( 06:15 ) as VKG9005, presumably as the Giro shuttle.

Nine-abreast in an A330 - just as well those riders are lithe and skinny.

    FlyNiki OE-LEZ inbound now ( 06:45 ) as NLY128F
