I think the 1.2 TSI engine is too small. VAG make much of the electric motor-like torque curve between 2 and 4,000 RPM, but you're going to have to cane it to get any good out of it in a car that size.

Jetta isn't a big car.Smaller than a passat.I was concerned about the engine.Want a petrol car so that is the only choice engine in this car.

It's six inches shorter than a Passat and weighs over a ton-and-a-half in its stockings. There are 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 TSI engines, as well as a couple of "normal" ones, and the turbodiesels.

Had a golf 1.2tsi for a day recently thought it was a great engine pulls really good in 2nd gear. I said to mechanic when i picked up my 1.6 tdi i thought the 1.2 was good he said the 1.6 tdi was a much better engine .the jetta uses older technology to latest golf . A jetta petrol doesnt sound right !!

1.2 TSi engine is turbo charged and produces 105bhp which is alot more than the old 1.4 litre 80bhp that Golfs and Jettas of old use drive around with. 1.4 TSi would be a nicer engine overall though.

BTW the Jetta is about to get a facelift to bring it a little more upto date though it is still mainly based on the old MkVI Golf. If you are not concerned about having a new model then consider the Passat 1.4 TSi, the Passat is being replaced with a new model later this year so there should be some good deals to shift existing stock.

That might not necessarily be a bad thing. The new golf is cheapened out in the suspension department on certain models. The older golf had class leading fully independent suspension on all models. The new golfs interior is a step up from the old car though Imo.

    I have a 1.4 TSI now, previously driven 2l, 2l Turbo and a 2.5l Petrol.
The pull on the 1.4 TSI from idle to 4-5k is great, probably better than the 2.5l was but the power fizzles out after that. It is one of the first cars that I have had where it is probably better to gear up before the redline.

The mark 7 golf with torsion beam handles fine a bit more roll through bends over my previous golf mark 6 bluemotion plus no rear suspension creaks .
