Bike hire security deposit?

    I've never hired a bike in any of bike hire places, but I'm sure there's plenty of people here who did.

    I wonder what kind of security measures usually bike hire companies take when hiring a bike?
    Do they normally take cash deposits (if so how much approx.) or maybe they do similar like car hire companies requesting credit card details and pre-authorising some amount from the credit card? But then this doesn't sound right, as I'm sure plenty of customers renting bikes might not even hold credit cards at all?

    Anyone advice very appriciated.

    I'll be hiring for the first time myself in Mallorca soon and this is the terms from the crowd I'll be using
    Terms: The rental charge must be paid in full, in Euros or by credit card, at time of bicycle pick up. Also, a refundable deposit of 50 € must be provided and it will be returned once it has been verified that the bicycle is returned clean and in the same condition in which it was collected. Any damage or loss of the bicycle or any of its parts during the rental period are the client's responsibility and must be paid accordingly.
