Upgrade for ableton

I am fixing a machine for a mate to run Ableton 9. It is currently running xp which is corrupt and needs reinstalling anyway. He says it was struggling a little with ableton before windows got corrupt. I dont know if this was the os or hardware.

    Hardware wise it has a core 2 quad Q8300, 4gb pc2-6400 and a 500gb hard drive.

The plan is to install Win 7 64bit, double the ram to 8gb and install an ssd for OS and keep the 500gb for storage. Just wondering will this be ok to run ableton?

The money is not really there to be building a new rig. I would also be open to overclocking the chip if it would make much of a difference, i have done this before on other machines.

    Thanks

Afaik Ableton is mainly dependent on CPU power, installing win7 and doubling the ram might see an alright performance boost, you'd really be looking at upgrading the CPU to see any major performance increases
