Quick question on the humax...

Just a quick question on the Humax HDR-1000s (1TB)

Ditched sky some time back and we have just been using a cheap SD freesat box for the past while, but have saved a few quid to get a decent recording HD freesat box.

About this time last year i asked on here about the humax HDR-1000s, and got good comments on it, but now since i have the money together, im just wondering if this is still the bee knees in it category?

Just want a family friendly replacement for our sky HD box and am about to pull the trigger on the humax on amazon @ £209 stg.

The Humax by far is one of the best on the market but the Manhattan Plaza HDR-S Freesat+ is definetly worthy a look as well.

Hi Access, try humax direct for a better price. They have managers specials, boxes that have been sent back for one reason or another and then reconditioned. I got one last year it was perfect, pratically brand new still in wrap. Has been running perfectly from day one. They dont deliver to republic though but i sent mine to a friend in the uk who in turn sent it to me. They wouldn't deliver to parcel motel at the time. You may think this was awkward but i saved a packet on the box. Hope this helps.

I'm sorry for jumping in on your thread Access, I've given Sky a month's notice today and I want to purchase the Humax HDR-1000S 1TB Freesat+ Digital Satellite Recorder too.

I've a question about installation, is it just a matter of disconnecting the leads from the Sky+ box and hooking up the new Humax box or do I need to get a professional installer?

If you have sky plus already in place with the two cables, then its a simple matter of just swapping the box, inputing an english postcode and away you go...however be aware the humax box does not come with a saorview tuner fitted as standard so you will not get the irish terrestrial channels on it.

Just hook it up. Have you 2 lines going into your sky box from the satellite?

Thanks very much for alerting me to the fact that I won't be able to get the Irish channels on Humax. Will I have to get a separate set top for Saorview or is there another fix?

Yes but there's a chance if your TV is about 5 years or less it may have a Saorview tuner built in. You can get cheap boxes in the likes or Argos.

Thanks for the info all... Think i will pull the trigger on the humax this weekend.

Anyone have any problems with them/any issues that i should look out for when i get it?

On a side note... Im so happy that i got rid of sky. Dont think we really miss any of the channels to be honest. If anyone is thinking of dropping sky, then do it... You wont regret it.

If you want London TV, use SW1 1AA as the post code. For NI use BT1 1AA.

Just an update on the humax...

Ended up buying it with amazon UK/parcel motel and also ended up getting a trilink too as i have it piped around the house to other rooms and wanted to be able to change the channel from any room as i previously had when i had sky.

Well happy with it and would advise any person on here looking to dump sky to research this box.

I've just installed Humax and my only regret is that I didn't cancel Sky ages ago. The new planner takes a bit of getting used to but overall I'd highly recommend it!

We ditched SKY earlier this year too. Got the Humax box... very impressed. Had to get a saorview box too as the tv is old. Don't regret getting rid of sky, no more monthly direct debit. Have netflix for movies and series so happy with our decision

    Hi

For those of you with the new Humax boxes, can you configure the network settings on it (i.e. specify the DNS settings, change IP etc)?

    Thanks

If you temporarily disable DHCP on your network router and then do a factory reset on the Humax, it gives you an option to configure your own network settings. You can then re-enable DHCP on your router.

Beware that this will remove any changes you have made to the standard settings on the Humax and will also remove any future recordings which you have set up, so make a note of these before you reset.

    Hope this helps.

just realised if you put in a ni postcode you will not get itv +1.

This applies to all freesat recorders, just noticed it on the epg now!!

No UTV+1 or STV+1 on Freesat, only England and Wales versions.
