    Folks,

is it possible to use an old phone and sim as a car tracker?

If so, what is needed and what is there to watch out for?
Are there any good step by step guides out there?

    Thanks, MtM

You can use an Android phone alright. But you are far better off using a dedicate unit. You can get a cheap one for $50 or less (Obviously taking that with the downside of buying cheap). Depending on the car, I recommend two. One that will be found fairly quick by someone aware of such tech and another buried in another part of the car. Both on independent and back up power supplies. A tracker is only good if it can't be found or disabled too easily.

Would strongly recommend against a phone as its not designed for the job along with OS and battery issues. Too much to go wrong and it could all go wrong at the worst possible moment.
