For a Spring reseed? The forecast for my part of the world doesn't look suitable for spraying off the existing old pasture any time soon (either wind or rain/showers). Add what, ten days or two weeks to that before I could harrow and seed and we're almost tipping into June.

Am I better off forgetting about now until August

Since your not ploughing will you use coated seed ??
I've been toying with the idea of over seeding with coated seed after silage is cut. Just one field as a trial.

The idea of sowing in spring/autumn comes from is do you have the ground productive for the best summer months.

I've ground ploughed here. Due to weather probably won't get seeds in for a week.

I am getting worried about being late in case of a prolonged dry spell.

Off to pick f@@king stones now....

I used coated seed a couple a years ago. I put it on a paddock which I levelled because it got badly poached. I just spread lots of seed on it but I never got a chance to roll it or anything after because weather broke. I couldn't see that many of the seeds grew at all and the old grass quickly out competed it totally. Thought it kinda defeated the purpose of the coated seed because that's basically what it's designed for and it didn't even strike. I wouldn't be bothered with it again just a gimmick

You can sow seed anytime from April to Sept imo without much worry. Only things you need to worry about is drought [ little worry in the west ] and excessive rainfall [ lot of worry in the west ]

Robson is correct re the drought. Biggest risk is when grass is a v small seedling with shallow roots. Chances of drought in your part of The world is low I'd guess, although a v thin layer of soil over underlying rock might be a concern? On balance I' d say work away.
