I have a one year old Sony Xperia S and I use Eircom for my webmail. I can receive e-mails, but not send them. I've taken advice before from Boards before, and tried everything. Still no luck, always says 'unable to open connection'. I've lost count of the incoming/outgoing server combinations I've tried......
Please, is there anyone out there who can assist? I put in my email address, my password, and then the correct incoming address (it must be right as I can receive mails?) but no matter which outgoing address I enter, nothing seems to work. Am I missing something?
Is there something else I'm doing wrong? (Apart from wasting my life away trying to sort this.....)

I use eircom as well, but I receive the messages through gmail, works perfect. But you will not receive messages that go into the spam folder on eircom so I log into eircom webmail every 2-3 weeks to check the spam filter.

I forget how I done it I used a guide to help me. Maybe somebody i here can help you set it up.

No further forward. I've checked and double-checked my settings, following the Eircom instructions to the letter! I've also tried every outgoing server setting suggested on every forum that appears when I ask the same question, as well as Boards. I can receive mails no problem, and I don't want to change my email address. They just won't send. A yellow bar appears at the top of the screen....'connection error' and my e-mail address.
I'm about to give up on this, and settle for only sending mails at home from my laptop.
Surely someone out there must have had the identical problem and has sorted it? BTW, I really appreciate all previous advice but none of it has worked.

Are you using wifi or mobile data?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 609 ✭✭✭tony glenn

That was quick! WiFi at home, mobile data when I'm out. (sometimes WiFi when I'm out if it's around). Makes no difference, same problem either way.

I used to get connection errors when using mobile data when using the email app on Xperias (the icon is a white envelope with blue on the lip you'd seal with)
Maybe try a different app to see first as suggested

Ok, but (I'm not a tekkie) does that mean I can still use the same email address etc?

Eircom have two types of email services at the moment ; and old one and a new one. If you have the old one you will have had this from before 2006 and you will know you have a new one as the capacity is 5gb. Below you will find the mail settings for both old and new email service.

    NEW :

    Incoming: webmail.eircom.net
    outgoing: mail1.eircom.net

    ports incoming: 110
    SMTPports outgoing:25

    OLD :

    Incoming: mail1@eircom.net
    SMTP outgoing: mail1.eircom.net

    ports incoming: 110
    ports outgoing: 25

Finally, Please make sure SSL/authenication ticket is not ticked/chosen.

    K9 mail

Er...I'm trying to register with cloudmagic..what's my IMAP server addres and my SMTP server address? (and I thought I was a POP 3.....is IMAP the same?)
PS told you I wasn't a tekkie LOL

    Imap in, Smtp out

Imap is more advanced than pop3 you could say. Though both are for incoming mail.
If eircom use pop3 use it

sorry, what I mean is that Cloudmagic is asking me to type in my IMAP and SMTP server addresses....where would I find them? ircom tells me I'm POP3, but there's no option for POP3 on the Cloudmagic startup page, is it OK to tick IMAP instead?

It looks like it doesn't support it, just Uninstall it & download k9 mail instead

OK, I'll try that this afternoon. Fingers crossed! And thanks again.

Yippee, progress of sorts. I was still getting nowhere, then I remembered I had a G-mail app on the phone from day one. It has a different email address, not sure how that happened during original set-up. Anyway, long story short. I sent a mail from my G-mail address to my eircom e-mail address, and it delivered OK. (stay awake at the back there)
So far so good. Now the problem is, if I receive a mail at my eircom address and want to reply, how would I do that.....without noting the sender's address and switching to G-mail?
Is there anyway I can 'move' my eircom address to the G-mail app? Or link it in some way?
