Problem with hard-wired connection to Sky-Hub

    Hi.

    I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem. I have the sky-hub hard wired to the desktop pc (Win XP) in the room but its not connecting to the internet, even though the wireless is working on the laptop downstairs.

    At first it was thought there was a problem with the ethernet ports at the back of the hub, so a second one was sent out, but alas the same problem cropped up.

    Just recently i rang up & went through a few checks:

    Restart the PC:
    Reset the router/hub
    Start -> Run ->
    Type devicemgt.msc ->
    Network Adapters ->

    I find 2x 1394 Net Adapters & RTL 8139D PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter.
    The second 1394 Net Adapter has ! at the start of it,
    R/click on it -> Properties -> General tab says:

    Code 10, This device cannot start.

    Does anyone know on how i can rectify this, as it sounds like a driver needs updating?

    Thanks for any help on this.

    thats a problem with the Ethernet card in your PC/laptop not the hub.

    Best advice is to update the driver or remove the adapter and get windows to find it and reinstall it.

    Just make sure you have the right driver software if Windows cant find it

    Thanks for the reply, but how do i update it, if there's no access to the internet, as i wouldnt know how to remove it?

    Or could it have been something else?
    Its strange though there was no problem with connecting to the internet 2 weeks before? & the week i moved over, it seems that the outage must have been nationwide with eircom on who i was with.

    Plug both ends of the ethernet cable into ports at back of the router.There is a little led longside each port.If they both light up then your ethernet cable is fine.Try this
    control panel - network sharing - manage network connections-local network connection.Check this and if its off turn it on .Hopefully that solve problem.

    That was one of the other things that skybb got me to try out & found nothing wrong with cable. But dont light up when other end inserted in the ethernet port in the back of the desktop pc.

    Bear in mind that this is Windows XP, so the path is differently laid out below, but wouldnt know which one really to take.

    Control Panel - Network & Internet Connections

    Pick a Task...
    - Set up or change your internet conn
    - Create a conn to the netwk...

    Or Pick a Control Panel Icon.

    - Internet Options
    - Network Conn
    - Network Setup Wizard

    I have noticed when i click into Network Connections

    -Local Area Conn 2 - Network Cable Unplugged - (PCI Fast Ethernet
    Adapter)

    1394 Conn - Connected, Firewalled.

    The Driver for your network adapter is on THIS page.

    Click on the link sp25162.exe on that page (on another computer) to download it.

    Transfer it to the PC in question and run it. If it is just a driver issue, this should fix it...

    EDIT: You could also just right click on the adaptor in device manager and uninstall it. Then restart the PC and it should re-install the driver...

    Thanks for the advice, i've transferred it to the PC & run it, but sadly nothing has happened, as i've tried to update AVG for example, but still no internet access.

    I've also tried by uninstalling it & restarting the pc, but no joy there either?

    It must be something wrong somewhere cabled up somewhere, i'll check it again later. :(
