Corroded brake line

My 06 Mondeo failed the NCT today for a corroded break line at the back. Would anyone have a ball park figure for what it would cost to get it fixed?

I failed on each one over my last two NCT's. The corrosion was near the end of the line, so didn't take too much work. €70 the first year and €65 the following year to have the section replaced.

Rear subframe will have to be dropped depending weather its one or two sides that are gone between a hundred and a hundred and fifty euro.

Really all depends where they are corroded and who is doing it though.

Yeah sorry about that. Normally that'd annoy me too but it was a bad day and spelling wasn't on my radar.

Reminds me of when my car failed on the front flexible hoses. They were fairly bad to be honest. Anyway:

I bought replacements for €25. Grand.

I bring the car to the tyre place near my work who I've dealt with since I started driving. Grand.

I spot a lad who I'll call P, that I served my apprenticeship with who'd recently started working there. Grand.

After a bit of catching up, our conversation goes like this.

Me: The car failed on brake hoses and just getting G (the guy I always get to do my work) to replace them.

P: Would you not just get a bit of heat shrink and wrap them?

    Me: What?!

P: Just wrap them and save yourself a score. Good as new.

Me: (Getting a bit pissed off here) I hope you're having a laugh?

P: I've seen it done loads of times. Nothing wrong with it.

I just walked away from P at this stage and over to G and told him that I didn't want P near my car. He said he was probably not gonna make it past his months trial anyway as he was useless and knew SFA about cars.

When I collected the car, I was presented the old hoses from G as expected and he showed me what work was carried out. Even did a full fluid change for me.

Some people are clueless when it comes to safety

    Exactly.
If great, big chunks of brakeline are coming away, better replace.
But if there's only a tiny bit of surface rust, I see no problem.
JC can take his own name in vain, but that's the truth. ;)

I got this done 2 NCT's ago and it got through its re-test no probs. Caught up with me today though. Just back from local indy and there is so much work required on my sub-5K miles pa Xantia Hdi (212k) that it looks like its coming to the end of the road. The rear brake pipes are more difficult on a proper Citroen. Dammit and more dammit. Only got its 2nd clutch 5k miles ago!

But yeh, wire brush and paint. Simples.

I really wish people would not recommend solutions like clean it and paint it. Generally if the nct see fit to fail it its not for light surface corrosion. Do people honestly think its a good idea to advise someone to cover up a problem on a safety critical system its beyond belief.

Those posts should be removed. Shocking advice to be giving anyone.

These cars its fairly common for the pipes to corrode down on the rear right hand side beside the subframe and fuel tank.

I work on Fords fulltime and if they are anything like some of the ones i have done the only solution is replace them.

I would never do a cover up job on my car. I have a young child and wouldn't have her travelling in a car that's unsafe. I'm not convinced the NCT is anything more than a money making scheme but at the same time, if a qualified mechanic tells me there's something even slightly wrong with my brakes I'm gonna fix them!

They failed my car for "advanced corrosion" on the brake line. 2 mechanics laughed when i showed them what they failed my car on. Surface dust is what one said. NCT guys are ass hats at the best of times.
