I only run 5-6k at the minute so I doubt I need it. I cycle once a week, normally over 50k so I'm going to start taking it for that. I'll be interested to see what people have to say about it.

Get Mrs UM1 to throw an extra steak on your dinner plate.

I'd be interested in this too. I have heard the 20/20 rule that the best time to take protien (20g) is within 20 mins of stopping your training and that's what I aim for. You do have up to an hour to get the protien into you to help the recover, but appartently if you can get it into you within the first 20 mins, it has the best impact
Mind you, someone is going to come along with a scientific paper saying protien
    is bad for you.

I only take a protein shake after a LSR, hard race, or hard track session. So really only once a week, maybe twice. Too exp to be taking alot anyways! Otherwise I try and have protein (eggs, chicken, tuna, beans etc etc) with every meal. If I forget to bring the powder with me to a race so can consume it quickly I just buy a pint of milk and drink that instead.
