Hi I am thinking of upgrading my current road bike. It's a Kellys Arc 3.0 & only have it a year. Has Tiagra groupset. Going through the bike to work scheme & my current bike. Any recommendations?

To clarify, are you looking to buy upgraded components for your current bike through the bike to work scheme? I don't think they facilitate this.

No I'm looking to get a new bike on the bike to work + trade in my current bike aswell.

Just as an aside, you're better off selling your current bike privately than doing a trade in.

A bike shop won't give you the same amount a private seller will, the bike shop needs to talk you down to accepting a price that suits him and gives him a profit when he sells it on.

Throw it up for sale in the adverts section of this forum with some pictures, name your price and sell it that way then use that money + your 1k bike to work allowence + whatever else you have to put towards it and get the best bike you can afford.

Thanks for the advice. So best road bike for around 1600?

Ooohhh, that's actually a really good budget.

The Ribble R872 with 11speed Ultegra, Shimano RS11 wheelset and 105 SPD-SL Pedals squeaks in at €1577 + shipping, I think you'd be hard bet to beat that for price. Full spec here.

Or, if you wanted to shop local, Planet X RT 57 – Shimano Ultegra 6800 11speed from Planet X Ireland in Athlone is only €1499.99, full specs here. Claimed frame weight of 1kg is impressive and the spec for the money, from an Irish shop, is ridiculous.

Canyon (if your company will buy off the web for you) CF 7.0 - 105 groupset (Ultegra BB) and Aksium wheels €1 under budget and under 8kg in weight.

That Planet X deal looks really good IMO.

That PX bike, bar the wheels, is a race ready machine. Incredible spec.

Really like the look of the Planet X, but could do with some better wheels

You're not going to get a bike for less than €1600 new with better wheels with anywhere near that level frame and groupset.

Wheels are the single easiest thing to replace and RS11's are as good as any entry level wheels. You could phone them and ask them if they'd let you swap those wheels + the difference in cash for a different wheelset, long shot but they might take it.

I was only looking at that planet x. Amazing looking bike. That'll be my next upgrade with a bit of luck :)

I don't know how but that PC is actually cheaper than the same model and spec on the UK website and it has a nicer paint job.

That Ribble has me thinking though. What are they like for quality? I don't think I've ever seen one over here. Their grand condo looks sweet as well.

Ribble have a very good reputation in terms of build quality, the R872 gets good reviews and the prices are very keen.

I've only bought components from them and never had any problems with deliveries but some people on here have complained about bad customer service in the past.

I might drop into their showroom next time I'm over there.

Had a look at a giant propel today, nice bike but over priced for the goupo that was on it.

I went for this bike, and this is my entry bike.

I know it costs more, but I decided that I want the bike to last for the next 5 years at least and I did not want to grow out of it after 1 year, I did alot of research as in this post, post 19, see the pdf document for bikes under €1,250.

In the end I wanted a bike with a good group set and carbon frame. It will eventually become my winter bike
