Pitchmark Repairs

Do people do this any more?
I played Palmerstown yesterday and on one hole, the 12th, I repaired 12 pitchmarks. That is a disgrace. Probably the same pigs that step over rakes to exit bunkers.

What i've noticed recently is players that hit a green but ball finishes off green, they go straight to their ball and seem to forget they've a pitchmark to repair. Only if putting do a lot seem to repair the damage

Always an issue, if I'm away I usually mark mine with a tee and then get to my ball mark it and get putting, with the tee in the green you don't forget to go back and repair it.

I'm not really playing long enough to compare, but I started when a lot of clubs were on the drive to get more casual/society revenue so I haven't really noticed any difference (ie an increase un repaired ones)
I'm guessing it has gotten worse over the years as clubs have pushed for non member money?

I always try to repair as many as I can.
Especially if I've a two footer and am last to putt. You'll find me hoping to find a few then as I try to do anything bar think of missing ;)

Speaking of rakes... Some ar*ehole left one lying halfway in, halfway out, of a bunker that sat just in front of a Par 5 green.
Hit a nice second and it was rolling up onto the green until it kicked off the handle and bunker time.
It ruined an eagle putt chance which would have been a highlight of a low round.
Whoever left it there was an absolute idiot in fairness.

I'm probably guilty of missing several of my own pitchmarks but if I'm on the green and waiting I'll always be having a quick look.

Maybe clubs should promote a "repair one Pitchmark per hole" policy.
Even if you haven't left one, have a quick look (no time wasting obv) and try to find one.

My course certainly does. I don't think anyone should be let on course without a pitch repairer. My son was in a competition in Newlands and the starter inspected them to ensure they had pitch markers before they went out. If they can do it for Juniors, no reason it can't be done for adults.

Call me an arsenal but I find it hard to rake a bunker that's in shiete condition ever before I step into it. Not an unraked bunker from one or two shots, just more and more bunkers are just being left to die a slow death.
I'm the same as parlance will actively seek out pitch marks once I've lined up my own putt and standing idle.

I'm just delighted to make a pitch mark these days.

ya, its very annoying alright, what i find is that some golf just don't know how to do it properly, u see some golfers and its like their trying dig a 6" hole.. and then theirs the other side when some golfers don't bother and then will give out like hell if theirs a unrepaired pitch mark in the way of their putt.

I can't control what others golfers do but I made a decision years ago to always repair my own pitch mark plus one other on every green.

I still do it today out of habit without even thinking about it.

We had a group from north of the border stay and play for 6 consecutive days. The revenue was great for the club but honestly, they left the place in shiite. The greens were peppered and are now in a terrible state. There was litter everywhere and empty beer bottles smashed in lakes and bunkers. These people were supposed to be golfers. It beggars belief.

I always repair my pitchmark and up to about 4 others. Sometimes the green is peppered with pitchmarks which is very annoying.

How to do it correctly. Lever it in from the sides and not up from the roots.

+1 I normally try to do 2-3 per green at least.

What I believe is that the guys who are out in the evenings practising and getting in the last holes of the day like to leave bunker raking and picthmark repair for the morning players to take care of on their behalf.

With regard to tools of the trade I used one of these recently - horrible, however I think these are only really effective for a particular type of grass

However I was also given one of these from pitchfix.com - by far the best tool I have ever used. It operates like a flick-knife with the tool flipping out on the press of a button. Really easy to use and gives great leverage to complete the repair. Get hold of one of these if you get the chance.

Even going around a green and repairing pitch marks you seen and fixing them is not really "fixing" them

If a pitch mark is not repaired properly in 15mins from the time it's made it takes weeks to repair back to its normal state.

Disclaimer: I'm pretty sure I read that a couple of years ago sonewhere but I may be way off.

    Of course I fix mine.

    A favourite subject of mine.

    Couple of things.

    Education is poor.
people genuinely don't understand or are aware of it. Then they think you pop them up.
Need video / images at course.

Course with a passing trade more of a problem.
society golfers who don't play much.

And lads who hit 4 or 5 balls into a green when practicing is an area that needs particular attention if you are doing that. It may not be intentional. But they can get a bit lost looking for balls or accidentally forget a ball landing on green and rolling off.

Yes that may seem harsh. But I've seen 5 ball lads with no sand back running around like headless chickens . Because someone is coming up behind them.

Regular golfers can play a part by repairing more than 1.
In our club you signed up to a section of green. Excellent idea. You were part of a team to have best green. I picked ugliest part of green on course . Was only name on it. Lol.
18 th green was full of names as best green on course and in sight of clubhouse.

Good idea in UK where they hide a little token in Pitch mark and prize for person who finds it.

Anyway . Nothing worse then a bumpy putt. Invariably due to years of pitch marks.
