Ben Smith (BBC) has just tweeted that Lallana has told Southampton he wants out

Shaqiri has big team experience but he has not been a success. Thats why he is surplus to requirements. I think that should be accounted for also.

I wouldn't say he hasn't been a success, he's fulfilled his purpose and they'll probably double their money on him

    That's Spurs' cue, right?

If Lallana & Lambert were our only 2 additions in the attacking end of the pitch I would be disapointed.
We need another pacy Winger/Forward like Sanchez or Konoplyanka.

Well I am using the barometer that if he was a success he would be playing regularly and still wanted by Bayern.

I think most of his appearances came when the league was already decided.

Soton not selling until a new manager comes in, could be after the WC before that trail picks up again.

Just watching Lamberts Soton goal compilation - he really is a great dead ball man, some lovely long range free kicks as well as his penos. Also impressive is his ability to take a ball on the turn on the edge of the area and fire it first time.

A great talent but we need a more proven an expercienced player.

For such big man his first touch is sublime.

Funny how we don't mind now but uproar when Suarez did the same last year.

Why would we mind a player from another club asking to leave?

Yep and I'm on record saying I have no problem with what Southampton are doing especially with the situation they find themselves in.

In fairness, why would Liverpool fans mind if a Southampton player said he wants to leave?

Last year it was Liverpool problem and now its someone elses - every year it happens several times. Obviously a Saints supporter will be rather glum at the prospect of being asset stripped esp when players look to force the issue. Just football really. That said Soton are a modest sized club, they know that if a CL club makes a move for a player and the price is right he'll move. And before anyone says "yeah but FSG last summer...." Liverpool were always going to get back into Europe at some point and keeping Suarez was considered key, whereas Southamptons fortunes are more modest and Lallana staying is arguably not vital to upper mid table stability.

    Who's this we?

More owners should ignore transfer requests. If a player is happy to sign a long-term contract they should be happy to honour it. If a club are not happy with a player after giving them a long-term contract they have to pay the balance of the contract to release them.
Felt the same with Suarez last year, he was worth more to the club staying than any transfer fee we could get for him. If Southampton want 30 million for Lallana its up to Liverpool to decide if he is worth it or not.

Yep, it has to be a two way street. All well and good saying that the players should honour their contract, but if that's the case then a club should be expected to do the same, and a player should be able to refuse a move without the threat of rotting away on the sidelines.

If think we will still be after a Sanchez or Shaqiri type after we eventually sign Lallana.

I'm hoping Sanchez. I have made up some delicious teams with Lallana and Sanchez included. Have Moreno at LB and Lovren at CB :)

What do people think about spending 50m on lambert, moreno and lallana. I have the say i cant help but feel underwhelmed by these signings for such huge money as well talk of 20m plus on likes of Louvren to boot.

Lambert signing i think is actually a very shrewd signing but the money being touted for lallana and moreno is just insane. Keep hearing moreno has potential but for the fee he is commanding we should be signing proven quality. While i can see lallana being a good fit for us i think we paying possibly 10m too much for him. Is he really any better than coutinho?

Will we have enough funds to sign the top quality players rodgers has been speaking about if we spend the reported amount of the above? I was really hoping wed be in for a truly top player in the shaqiri cesc or sanchez mould but i really hope lallana isnt that marquee player rodgers in talking about.

As a contracted player you are paid to be available to play as instructed by the club. End of story. If the club ask you to play in the reserves that's where you play as long as you take a wage from the club each week.

Any word on how Enrique is?

    No.

People seem to be forgetting that we were in a little bit of trouble with financial fair play last year when we lost the guts of £50M. The commercial deals and Champions League football will help bringing us back to break even, but they won't be enough for us to be able to go on a free-for-all with regards to bringing new players in.

Lambert for £4M is good business, for very little risk, you have a proven Premier League attacker who will bust his gut for his boyhood club. Moreno for £16M strikes me as a well placed gamble. The lad's already a Spanish international with the potential to push his way into the squad permanently. If it fails to work out, given his age and profile, I think you would definitely find a suitor.

Lallana deal troubles me though. While Lallana seems too pricey to me at £25M, I don't think the comparisons with Fabregas are fair at all. I imagine if Lallana were to come here, he already be trippling/double his wages if he were to be on £60k a week. Fabregas on the other hand will be looking for a mega payday, especially given that he took a wage cut to fulfill his dream of joining Barca. If it's City who do end up getting him, I could easily see him being on £180k a week or so (over £6M a year more than Lallana).

Good quality left backs are a rarity these days so they go at a premium, that added onto the fact hes a spanish national and theres your 15-20 million rumoured fee, this is the kind of money we need to be spending on players this window to improve us otherwise you get an aspas level full back.
lallanna is obviously overpriced but if rodgers feels he can push us forward then so be it.

I like Moreno, and I think he offers us an Outlet on the Left that we oftentimes miss.

Usually when we play Flano as LB, he usually passes back or defer it to another Player. He rarely Overlaps, and that's because he can't Cross with his Left Foot. But can't Blame him for that, since he's a RB deputizing as LB.

But nonetheless, it's one of the Reasons why are Left-side Attack is often Predictable. And it usually takes some piece of Suarez-Magic, for us to have some Success there.

As Good as Moreno is going Forward, his Defensive Positioning is not very Good. It makes me think that Moreno, actually started out as a Winger first, before being converted to a LB. Kinda like Coentrao.

But he is Young, so it something that can be Coached upon.

    Here's an unpleasant thought.

Let's say we spend £25M on Lallana and then let's assume he has a poor first season. Next year, he'll be 27, where does he go from there? No one will want him from abroad. None of the top 6 teams will want to take a 27 year old Liverpool flop. Realistically, you're looking at offloading him to a few mid-table Premier League teams. If Downing was worth £4M, then what's Lallana worth at that point? 7 or 8 million?

    Simon Peach @SimonPeach · 25m
Snippet on #LFC's interest in Lallana. Appears reported £25m offer a red herring, with bid to #SaintsFC actually less with ludicrous add-ons

    Journo for the Press Association

    Adam Blackmore ‏@bigadamsport 2m
#saintsfc's reluctance to sell Lallana may have a lot to do with fact that actual guaranteed money offered by #lfc is well short of 25M.

Doing the rounds on twitter at the moment.

And if a club has the power to do that then the player should have every right to look for a way out of their contract when they want. End of story.
