Think he would be a cult hero type, a scouser and big fan had a few years in the academy if I'm not mistaken. Can't wait for him to bang in a derby goal, apparently has a Liverbird tattoo and all haha

Lambert is a great option to have on the bench , he is a lad who knows what to do when in front of goal and this is what we need when finding it hard to break teams down

There will now be 6 maybe 7 Liverpool players in the England World Cup squad and Flanagan on stand by.

9m for a 32 year old doesn't make a whole lot of sense so there must be something more to this one.

The cut from the Lallana-deal theory makes sense.

Its £4 million plus add ons according to the more reliale reporters.

Hes too much for 9 million and he'll probably have one good season.

It's not 9 million lads turn off ssn

Suarez/Sturridge/Borini/Lambert up top with Aspas shipped out maybe........not bad i guess.

Lambert for 4m would be a short sighted but perhaps sensible transfer. Not totally sold on the idea, but easy enough to see where BR is coming from.

Yep the talk on the message boards et al is that this is a complex sneaky deal designed to "under value" Lallana by overvaluing Lambert via top ups that will actually go to Southampton for Lallana.

Lambert will be a good addition to Liverpool especially as an option off the bench and in other games as cover.

Add Lallana before they head to Brazil be good going. Moreno another supposedly along the way. If they get Lovren then they'll have most of the Southampton team

    Lambert nearly a done deal.

Time to move on for Lallana and Lovren before the World Cup now.

Moreno in as well would be a great start to the transfer window before the World Cup.

All the reliable ish journos are saying 4M plus add-ons. Only Sky seem to be sticking to the 9M.

People are speculating Lallana is a done deal, but not at the price that favoured LFC, so they negotiated Lambert into the deal, and the fee will split heavily on Lamberts side and the balance on Lallana...this would reduce the amount owed to Bournmount.

IF this is true it's a very unsavoury thing for Southampton to do, and I'm not too comfortable with LFC being a part, albeit small in the transaction.

Thanks for this explanation. It's clear now why we're being linked with Lambert. Sensible move for both Southampton and Liverpool.

Lambert for 4m? I can see the appeal of the deal.

Further cover in an area that probably needs it but doesn't need an expensive signing who would expect game time.

A different option - 'plan B' in terms of style.

A striker that you look at on the bench and think - 'he could get us a goal' (unlike Aspas).

Is a fan of the club which is always nice and should give his all.

Wages would probably be c.40,000 at a guess.

We managed to sell Carroll for 17m which I was well behind, but if we could have only got 5m for him I would have preferred we hung on to him as a different option. There's a decent argument that Lambert is a better player than Carroll too, so I'm happy enough if this goes through.

I don't see it as a lack of ambition as some might paint it, because it's an area in which we already have two top quality players - it is a smart signing that makes sense imo.

    Last two seasons:

    Apps: 66 (9)
    Goals: 28
    Assists: 15

    Not too shabby

Could be Gary McAllister type signing , lets hope he has a similar impact . I think its a great move tbh - he's not your average big Kevin Davies/Andy Carrol/Carlton Cole type attacker - he can actually play a bit , has good vision and a killer eye for goal.

Ok, I was very skeptical at first so didn't mention anything publicly, but throughout the day more and more "trusted" people have been getting the same info, so it seems as though Rickie Lambert is on the verge of signing for LFC. Been told it's a 2 year deal, £4m or less. He's being brought in as backup. Medical on Sat. Possibly taking a pay cut too.

    That's all I have.

    Cheers
    Karl.

this is guy is suppose to be reliable. I guess we will find out in the next few days if he is.

Just thought I'd bump this, well spotted MD1990 (someone better bookmark that page!)

Tis a strange one alright. But if he does a Gary Mac then I'm all for it.

Can't get my head around the Lambert move at all. Hes 32 and imo simply isnt good enough to have in a squad that wants to be challenging for the Premier League.

If this is all part of the Lallana deal, well I still think its a daft move. Never mind the 4 million plus add ons, but we have to pay his wages too.

Lallana imo isnt worth over 20 million but now factor in Lamberts wages on top of it.

With all the positivity over the course of last season, our first signing is going to be Ricki ****ing Lambert.

I really hope we have better than this lined up. (and better than lallana).

I'm surprised by Lambert, but yet happy with it. We need a player like him.
He can play with a team with fast passing football.
He can also do a bit of grunt work up front, something that we lacked in the games like West Ham and Chelsea where there was a sea of defenders.
Has experience, great strike of the ball, peno king.
He'll be great for the rotation of games we'll have next year as well in the cupsss.
It's better than splashing out bazillions on a forward who wont be happy on the bench.
