Do antibiotics drain you of energy?

Last weekend I was in torturous agony with toothache, went to the dentist Monday turns out I have an abscess and was given antibiotics for it. Ever since Monday I have felt like a zombie, I understand that I'm unwell and my body is fighting an infection but my God I feel like I'm on some wicked strong painkiller. Which I'm not. I had more energy than this when I was in agony... Any thoughts?

nope, unfortunately.. you need to suffer your part. Usually 1-2 weeks is enough to kill all nasty bacteria and recover. ;) good luck [I'm currently also on a-bio after wisdom tooth extraction..that was a lot of fun ;)

I used to have to take antibiotics a few times a year for tonsil infections, and have had to take them a handful of times over the past few years. I can confirm that for me the antibiotics drained me of all energy. All I wanted to do was sleep. Felt like a zombie. Had more energy before I took them even though I was in more pain!

There might be some science behind the 'loss of energy' idea. Mitochondria are evolved bacteria so something designed to kill bacteria might interfere with mitochondrial functions. If your mitochondria stopped working you'd been dead in 1/2 a heartbeat, marvelous critters.
