This has been going on for weeks during the day i get my full 3mb speed at night my speeds drop drastically and my ping is 15 times higher I thought it could have been the old router as it was acting up but its the same with the new one only daytime speed is alot better, Is this some sort of congestion on the line that has to be lived with or is something strange going on at nightime 6-12 pm?

    Speedtest from 10.30pm 3/5/2014

I have been reading lot of complaints about this issue over the last few weeks. I didn't check my own internet till last night.

I was shocked to find were i used to get 29 ping and almost 0 to 1 Jitter, all the time. My line is no showing a ping of 60 to 70 and 13 to 18 jitter.

This is totally unacceptable Eircom, its enough i pay lot of money for crappy speeds. And thankfully i usually get the right speeds all the time 6 down 312kb up. So i can just hold off for better speeds when they come to my area.

But, i game, the ping and jitter this high is totally unacceptable, for me and others. Speeds matter very little when you game. It can fast or low doesn't matter, but the ping and jitter have to be good and low to have a good experience.

    Fix this please.

Yes i am pinging to the same server, as you, the problems are real,. I use to ping to a different server before and my pings and jitter were great.

Shocking for me too lately mate, same issue with the times. There's a thread in the Broadband forum over on Tech->Nets/Comms->Broadband where a number of us spread over the country are experiencing difficulties.

It certainly seems to be a widespread issue relating to either capping or congestion.

    3485945379.png

As you can see pings and speed are very good considering I'm on the 3mb line making the internet almost useless at nightime is getting anoying tbh cant even stream a youtube video it seems this is a wider scale issue too hopefully it gets fixed shortly

Well I have the exact same problem  - however it started for me Aug/Sep 2013 - and eircom can't/won't do anything to fix it.  Every night from 7pm until 12-12:30am my internet is utterly unusable in terms of online gaming/watching netflix/youtube/twitch.tv.  And I've had to put up with this for 9 months now.  Eircom are now a joke of a company, they refuse to tell us why we're congested on an"uncongested" service, nor do they seem to give a toss about fixing it.  My advice to you, as someone who has had this problem for nearly a year now is don't hold your breath, don't believe them about how they are fixing it, and if there are any alternativbes for BB in your area go with them - failing that accept you have "daytime internet" and move on.

The most annoying thing for me is that, despite still being a horrendous speed, I'd be delighted if I could even get 2-2.5mb at all times as it would allow me to just about do what I need to. Yet from evening-midnight it's so poor it's unusable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,130 ✭✭✭ussjtrunks

At least I can still play online as my pings are usually 150-250 at nighttime if it does hit over 300 though it starts to become unuseable at least thats mainly only around 10-11.30 most nights so i can live with that the download speed is shocking at nightime though and its annoying not being able to use most internet services at night.

The only option here atm is Nova which Im not too sure on tbh

I don't mind Eircom, they usually provide a great service, even if it is very expensive.  My speeds aren't the best, but i can wait for an upgrade.

With the service being crappy like this it doesn't sit well with customers and Eircom should be more careful. ESB and Vodaphone will eventually start rolling out fibre to every place in Ireland, and Eircom  customers have long memories. it could be bad for Eircom longterm taking customers they have for granted.

Brutal again this evening this is beyond it like if they are capping speed surely doing it to this extreme is pointless :( my upload is faster than my download

Improvement on the lines from limerick that are routed via the B-ras in Galway, ping times down to normal and bandwidth stable and within acceptable levels, since about 4pm yesterday:

Thank you to the team here for pushing this upstream.

tony and the rest of the eircom team are spamming "issue fixed" messages...

they are no more fixed than the man in the moon!

    exchanges.
    are.
    overloaded.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,130 ✭✭✭ussjtrunks

Mine is Abit better atm 1mb most of tonight at least its useable hopefully the congestion will ease off or the problem will get fixed at some stage, eircom called me on Friday and told me it was congestion and it would take time to fix at least they know its an issue

    3494699849.png

If it stays between 1-2mb at nighttime i have no issue its last week when it dropped to .5mb it gets awful to use and sometimes it wouldnt load at all :( hopefully tonight is a sign things are getting better

when broadband came first, it was that speed in my area... in 2004... I'm in rural south Kildare... how in gods name are you still getting that speed... Where are you getting that?

    I hope you're paying €5 a month for it...

Its painful to see you getting that speed...

3g on your phone would be 500% faster....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,130 ✭✭✭ussjtrunks

Im about 3 miles outside Killavullen my 3mb speed is constant except during the night, 3g internet is actually faster i get around 3.5mb when i didnt have eircom for awile but the download limits are useless.

Its costs about €45 a month with phone

Not true. I'm just outside Casletownroche and was on the same exchange as you. I went with Nova Broadband fixed wireless and my pings are very low during peak times( less than 30ms) and speeds are 20Mb. Until eircom upgrade the exchange to efibre it will always have network congestion.

Fine all weekend until tonight, youd expect the weekend to have the highest congestion so i highly doubt thats whats going on unbeliveable that this cant be fixed :(
