    Hi all,

My 2006 Subaru Forester was crashed into causing about €4.5k damage.
It's being fixed at the moment through the other parties insurance.

Does anyone know if I am entitled to a crash deprecation payment?

    TIA

Have you been provided with a car by the insurance company?

I was in a very similar situation, 4.5k damage after being rear ended on M50 back when it was a car park.

The car was fixed up, I got a courtesy car and when I got my car back I was called by the guys insurance to ask was I happy with everything and they were looking to close the claim.

I asked about depreciation and was told I would get a call back, I got a call and a day or two later a guy came to my house to 'talk'. He looked at some receipts I had for the doctor after the crash and basically asked me how much I felt the cars value had depreciated. I cant remember the exact figure but I blurted out €1000 or something like that. He instantly said fine and wrote out a check while explaining that this would close the claim.

Maybe they were afraid of a medical claim I don't know. You have to declare that the car is crash repaired if you sell it so that will devalue the car. I'd be looking for compensation for that. Maybe thats seen as scabby to some people but **** it.

    Does that have relevance?

Yep your circumstances are very similar to mine however I suffered a fractured knuckle and ligament damage to my wrist so I'll look into that side of it another day.
I'm collecting my fixed car next week and just want to know where I stand on any one of payment for the crash deprecation if I decide to sell down the line

I can't say I've ever heard of this. So I couldn't see the insurance company giving you money to cover depreciation. It shouldn't make a whole lot of difference once it's repaired correctly when you come to sell it either way. It won't bother most people that come to look at the car. The odd person might spot it's had paint and walk away but it's not the end of the world a lot of 06 cars have had some damage at some stage. If your trading it in garages won't care either way. My parents traded a Santa Fe a few years ago that had been crashed twice. And the garage didn't care at all they had done the repairs on it and at the time this jeep was still worth well over 20k on a trade in. It's probably unlikely that they even told the new owners it was crashed.

I have been told it is something you are entitled too but many people are unaware of it or don't ask for it.

What you're saying makes sense alright but if there is a payment there I want to avail of it.

They work depreciation out at between fifteen and twenty percent of the repair value less the vat.

When you ask they will offer probobly fifteen keep pushing them and they will go to twenty percent.

Definitely if there is such thing you should go for it. You might as well try and get as much as you can out of it since you've injured and I'm sure inconvinced by lack of your car while it's being repaired. Best of luck with it.

My sister got 10% of repairs a few years ago with about 5k of damage done to a car worth about 8 or 9k at the time.

They will pay it.... It is something that is covered.
I dealt with a lot of crashed cars claims years ago and they where giving this, it is not something they tell you about, but if you ask for it you will get it.. Push hard for best deal
