Lads in a straight choice which would you go for?
I'm looking at both in hatchback, 2012, 140 BHP mondeo, 130 insignia, similar spec with cruise control, air con, 6 speed etc. Insignia from a local well reviewed dealer, mondeo mixed reviews on the dealer.
Need the big boot (mondeo slightly bigger I think) and room in the back seat to stop the little one kicking the back off me!
Mixed driving with a fair proportion on secondary/ poor standard roads.
    Opinions?

Mondeo for your needs would be better tbh.

The insignia is tight enough in the back.

If going Mondeo, please get a decent spec, Zetec or above, anything below isn't a nice place to be in!

If you don't want the little 'un kicking you, buy a Superb.

From those 2, I'd probably go for the Insignia, purely because it would have built in Nav (presuming it's not a boggo base model).

Mondeo would be better to drive, but the Insignia isn't that far off.

    Lads, opinions on this car?
What are the watch outs, questions I should ask on it or a similar mondeo?
    Hope the link works....

Either you bought it really quick or someone else bet you to it, because it's gone now! Seen it earlier, looked alright, nothing major stuck out, it was an import I think. I personally don't like them wheels on Mondeos, needs chunky 5 spoke ones, which are an inch bigger.

Assuming the OP hasn't bought that Mondeo....

Surely a nicely specced up Superb with leather and toys is the answer - unless im missing something important????

I think it needs to be the 2.0 tdi though - as they are a big car - the typical Irish solution is to buy a 1.6 tdi - but they are a BIG car

Ya, like Old diesel said, you would need the 2.0 engine for comfort and to have a bit of poke. Although, the one you had linked there was a 2.0 iirc.

Was referring to the Superb - but the same thing would definitely apply to the Mondeo as well.

I get that the Irish love their small engines - but its still hard to understand why someone would shell out a sizeable amount of money for a brand new Mondeo or Superb - two nice big comfortable cars - and then ruin it all by going for a 1.6

Exactly, for the sake of less than €1,500 extra with the mondeo you have your 2.0 (from new). I know which one I'd be choosing....

Typical of my luck that I find one and its gone immediately.
    How about this one?
    http://www.fotaautoparts.ie/used-cars/Ford/Mondeo/zetec/44813957606881650/

Anyone know anything about them? Car sales may be just a sideline for them. According to carzone its there for 44 days. At that price and for sale for that long, I wonder is there something wrong with it.
How much would they take for cash?

    http://www.billgriffinmotors.ie/viewanad.php?ad_id=1038112&r=

Would bill griffins reduce the price for cash? I've been there for a look, when I thought I had to trade in. The asking price has reduced on this car since, rang them up, the guy reduced my trade in value so it was still at original price for me! Told me to sell it privately and he would sell it at that price then!

    Could you stretch to this?
    http://www.kerrymotorworks.ie/used-cars/Ford/Mondeo/2.0-TDCI/45113970625632180/

I dealt with them and got a great deal on a mondeo titanium x estate! Although I traded in my own car, I never saw it for sale yet and this was 2 months ago.

Has the insignia got the same 6 speed box as the previous astra/vectra? The m32. They have been known to give trouble. Probably been updated befor the insignia though. Looking at an insignia myself which is why I ask!

Not sure what gearbox is on the Insignia - but they can still give issues - there was a thread on here recently from someone with a 2011 Insignia that needed new clutch/gearbox.

A poster that works for a company with 120 Insignias responded by saying that their companies fleet had issues too - can't remember the exact number of failures though.

Will try and find it for you

No I couldn't stretch that much. I only wish I could!

The box in the diesel Insignia is the F40.

There is quite a lot of them about. And cheap to if you were to import from the uk. I wonder is the 30 out of 120 slightly exaggerated tho?

I imagine its an accuate figure for THAT fleet - now whether 30 out of every 120 Insignias will have transmission issues - that's a different question .

Take a decent test drive in one though before buying - yes ive said this before - and no ive never driven one - but from reading owner reviews and the like - online - they are a real you either hate them or like them sort of car.

Have heard 2 you tube reviews on the Insignia which highlight that point - one guy REALLY liked it.

The other guy whose normally pretty positive about most stuff - hated it.

I will see if I can find them again

Okay - heres the positive review of the Insignia

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h0mrUWsd9s

This is the really negative review of the Insignia

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1TIlOEYHvU

Yes your man does have a big beef in the 2nd review with the 1.4 petrol BUT - its clear hes not impressed with the Insignia generally
