Hi All, i am thinking of upgrading my bike under the cycle to work scheme - any ideas what the above would be worth? I paid €1300 back in '09 and its in good condition, new tyres (colour red/silver).

My budget for a new bike is circa €2000 (willing to pay a little more if it can be justified) and while i would be happy enough with a new Giant as i find it a great well made bike, just wondering are there better bikes at this price range? I cycle to work 1-2 days per week (40km round trip) then maybe a 60-80km trip at the weekend...so not an extreme cyclist but i do intend ramping this up a bit now during the summer (kids at a more manageable age now so getting more free time!!!)

    Any advice welcome!
    Thanks
    PK

    What size/spec is your Giant?

Generally, for a bike that's a year or two old, you can reasonably expect half what you paid for it.

I race a 2014 Giant TCR Composite, and am a huge fan. If I wasn't racing, a Defy would be a great bike for €2k. Alternatively, Canyon and Rose do great value for money options.

Local bike shops can offer you a lot of post purchase servicing that online retailers can't, and it's worth considering that too. For your budget, the immediate bikes that spring to ming would be a Cannondale Synapse or CAAD10; a Giant Defy Composite 1; potentially a Trek Domane. There are plenty more options, but those would be the standout endurance bikes that I considered recently, before just going with an aggressive race bike.

Hi Dave, thanks for the recomendations - mines a 54cm frame with Shimano 105 - im guessing at 5 years old its not going to be worth much then...

You'll sell that ten times over if it's in good nick. Not that easy to find a nice second hand bike when you go to look and every ring of Kerry wannabe wants a cheap entry level road bike

Oh and Canyon all the way for the new bike imo! :)
