The inequalities of boxing

Has anyone seen the purses for Mayweather v Maidana? Floyd GUARANTEED $32 million, Chino Maidana $1.5 million.

What is going on with this "sport" at all. No shadow of a doubt that Floyd is THE fighter in the sport but when 2 men are putting their lives on the line in the ring there should be ALOT more fairness with regards to purses.

Classic example was Mike Perez v Magomed Abdusalamov, that poor man will never box again and wasn't even paid enough to cover his medical costs.

Everyone who fights Mayweather now know they are not getting paid more than Floyd. Its not inequality because Maidana is getting a big pay day and that excludes other endorsements aswell.

Lol. Not getting paid more than Mayweather? It's 32M to 1.5M. It's less than 5% of the total purse.

To put this in perspective, Khan is getting $1.5M to fight Collazo on the undercard. Broner is reportedly getting $2M to fight Molina. People talk about winning the 'Mayweather Sweepstakes", but Maidana is getting a guarantee of just 500k more than what he got against Broner. At least we now know why Maidana was chosen over Khan despite Khan winning much publicised poll.

It shows you one thing for sure, 50cent wasn't lying when he said that Floyd was enraged by having to pay opponents seven figure purses. Anyone who thinks this guy was ever serious about giving up a huge chunk of the takings from a superfight to a certain other fighter is away with the fairies.

That's boxing and that's life. Mayweather is the biggest PPV star in the world and deservedly earns what he gets. Maidana's purse is minimal in comparison but if he doesn't like it he can fight someone else for less.

I dont see the issue. Mayweather gets paid more because he brings ALL of the money to the table for the fight. It happens in every walk of life, the better sales man, trader, accountant who wins more accounts etc gets paid more than less preforming colleagues. Im sure this is a career high payday for Maidana and should he win his future earnings potential will be vastly higher. Its a win win for everyone!

It may be a huge difference, but as mentioned, without Floyd, Maidana would probably never get that sort of money. Don't bite the hand that feeds you!

He's only getting half a million more than his fight with Broner!
the poor fella, we should set up a collection for him.

Its a 50% pay rise and I'm sure he will see some upside on this number with PPV sales etc. The reported guarantees are just the money that will be paid within a week of the fight. That is the reason Mannys numbers look low as TR pay fighters later.

    Spot on.

    Dan Rafael:
"Maidana's official purse is a career-high $1.5 million, but he also will earn more. He will make additional money from Argentina television rights and also has a chance to earn additional money depending on how well the pay-per-view performs."
    http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/10863691/floyd-mayweather-earn-least-32-million-saturday-fight
    Kory Kitchen:
"We've seen times, especially with boxers who come from outside the United States, when a fighter's real purse is not totally given. It appears likely that's what's happening here as $1.5 million would be an awfully small amount of money for such a big fight. Maidana could get that figure just by fighting a rematch with Adrien Broner. There's a better chance he's guaranteed around twice that amount."

They'll both probably make over twice those numbers. I saw some clip on youtube with Maidana a few weeks back saying that he's now going to be made for life, he seems pretty happy with the situation.... #PRIZEfighting

That seems to be life in the big business of world title bouts, especially if your fighting an established champ. Derek Chisora was only paid 300k to fight Vitali when he got his shot and the moron ended getting fined a 100k of that!
