I saw some really nice Seikos on amazon UK, seriously cheaper then buying from an irish retail store. Has anyone bought a watch from amazon before? Did it work out ok?

    Thanks

Haven't bought a watch (saw this thread on the homepage) but have bought pretty much everything else - toys, gadgets, expensive computer gear etc - all through Amazon without any issues.

As with eBay check out the user reviews/feedback and try to go for sales that are fulfilled by Amazon directly if possible would be my advice.

Have seen a few nice Citizens on there myself but I don't think I could justify it to myself :)

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

I'd consider buying from Amazon considerably safer than buying from most Irish retail stores :)

Customer service is second to none. Returns procedure is easy, no quibbles, they even pre-pay for your postage to send it back. And you save yourself the petrol / bus fare to get to the shop and you can shop 365 / 24 / 7 too...

I can't think of a bad experience I've had with Amazon, and I've bought at least 3 watches from there. The main advantage with the retail store is that you can try the watch on first; apart from that I'd definitely look online.

A small caveat is that the returns in the event of a fault may not always go back to Amazon. I bought a Torgoen watch 2 years ago which developed a fault, and I had to return it to the UK distributor, not to Amazon. It wasn't a big deal, but a bit of a pain. I can't remember if I bought directly from Amazon, or just from a different company selling there.

Looks nice. I think the Amazon price is more realistic.

I looked at Citizen watches too but I have always been attracted to Seiko's.

Is the Citizen movements any better then Seikos?

Every time I bought an analogue watch from amazon, it was delayed by several days and when I had to go to An Post to collect it, it was always opened, examined and rewrapped in an-post security tape.

Though that's more to do with An Post than Amazon

Seiko have a bunch of different movements, and I'm sure Citizen do as well, so it's probably hard to say.

I'm a big Seiko fan, and would not hesitate getting another one. The only issue I had was with a solar powered one - any quartz or automatic Seikos I've had have been rock solid.

Amazon.de have some JDM Seiko's. I bought a Sarb035 from them last september and everything went swimmingly. Warranty card was not stamped but I have the receipts from Amazon if anything goes wrong so no biggee.
