New to dairy farming

    hi all.. am new to boards.ie.. I am not sure how to start a thread..

    am looking for information on how to find out information about dairy farming. learning basics.. like amount of land and no of cows.. feed levels.. medical assistance etc.. and the input that would be required to start a good dairy farm.. if any one would be happy to help pls do.. thank you..

    Welcone to boards. You'll find plenty of info from very good posters ere. Start with the dairy farming general and grass measurement threads. As regards a starting point if ya have a minimum of 80 acres and about half a million to spend you have a good starting point.

    Best way to learn these things is to work on some other farmers dairy farms for few days/week of the year, I would,nt just get into dairy without any experience could be a very expensive learnin curve.

    Welcome. You need to contact Teagasc or ACA, and get an advisor out for a once off visit. Give them a few quid to do up a business plan and a viability plan. Better again get two out to do up plans.
    That's your first step, then you know what you, your farm and your finances are capable of.
    This would be the first step of any business, it's what's you should do.
