Ok so maybe it is review time or something but I've 2 friends on jsb and 1 who gets fis and they all got letters this week saying they had been overplayed.

Thing is none of them have done anything wrong they haven't lied it's mistakes on the welfares side.

I understand people make mistakes but surely they should have computer programmes that work out people's entitlements?
The friend on fis has been overpaid by almost €150 a week for months, she sent in payslip she sent in p60 she sent in all the correct details but still this happened. She now has to pay back a small fortune that she doesn't have. Not only that but readjust her weekly budget. Surely there must be a way around these mistakes?

Also if it is not your mistake should you be put under pressure to pay it back quickly or can you ask them to take a small amount a week seeing as not only will you be paying them back therefore reducing your weekly income but also getting used to living on the lower amount your entitled to?

    Thanks.

Doesn't matter, has to be paid back. Likely via reduction in future payments.

You can ask them to take a euro per week for life as long as you pay it back.

Actually that's incorrect that doesn't happen anymore they can legally take 15% from the weekly payments ,I know one lady paying €40pw overpayments

I understand it has to be paid back it's good to know about the 15% thanks will pass the info on.

Surely if overpayments happen so often it's time to change the system? It's mad how backwards the government can be I can guarantee if I overpaid/undercharged people in work regularly my boss would change the way I worked to stop it happening!!!

One of the issues people well know there been over paid and have no problem spending the extra money ,
But when the mistake gets flagged on the system the person/person suddenly cry poor and can't afford to repay ,
