Hi, just a quick question, recently my village has been scheduled to be upgraded to fibre before July 2014.

I have spoken to an eircom technician who confirmed that the exchange is fibre enabled, he said because it`s a small village the VSDL equipment would possibly be installed in the exchange without need to place VSDL cabinets beside existing cabs.

Finally :) my question is, is it necessary to install a new VSDL cabs beside existing cabs, or can they be bypassed?

There's no reason why they couldnt, but I'd be surprised if they did as it'd reduce performance.

Yeah, sort of defeats the point of VDSL to stick the DSLAM in the exchange (except for direct fed lines that have no other cost effective option). Every metre counts!

Thanks for the reply's, just to add there is a cab about 200 mtrs from my house and the exchange is approx 650 mtrs.

There has been a lot of activity at the exchange recently with both Eircom and KN Networks.
