Supposed to be £139.99 in the UK. I'd say with the Pre Order Guarantee it might go down. They should really just drop the price of the Moto X considering nobody is buying it.

That's probably for the 8GB model, which is only £135 on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Motorola-DVX-XT1032-Free-Smartphone/dp/B00ECBREK2/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1384376512&sr=1-2-fkmr1&keywords=Motorola+DVX%2FXT1032

This is coming to Irish carriers so it might be worth holding out to see what pricing it like.

Regarding pre-orders, do prices tend to go up after the pre-order period or is the benefit of pre-ordering just that you are guaranteed to get the phone when it is released? That looks really tasty at that price for a sim free phone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,566 ✭✭✭GrumPy

Obvious question, that doesn't seem to be in the link? (or I'm going blind)

When is it actually released? If I pre-order now when will it ship?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

That's the big question, it's supposedly available now in the UK and Ireland but to me that availability seems to be availability to stockists, so they can order what they want and sell it on. Some bricks and mortar places in the UK, Phones4U is one, are supposed to have them in stock tomorrow, but possibly only the 8GB versions.

I had the idea of getting one for my son for Christmas and rang O2 - they didn't have a clue what I was talking about. Typical!

Just get it from Amazon, it'll probably be the cheapest option anyway.

Have any networks confirmed that yet?

Phones4U have the 8GB in store apparently.

The handsets are reported to be unlocked even if purchased on PAYG deals with a £10 credit add-on (much like CPW typically do). They can be ordered online now for £129.95.

    http://www.phones4u.co.uk/shop/shop_payg_details.asp?ItemKey=737281#sthash.vVeO5Rhi.hGWfJ5LW.dpbs
Just went into the Phones4U in Newbury (the one in the PC World in the Pinchington Lane retail park) and they have 4 of the 8Gbs in stock. Had a play and it's a really nice phone, smooth and pretty vanilla. Very light and a decent screen size. They have PAYG upgrade at £99.99 which is a bargain if you know someone with a PAYG SIM. They ARE unlocked, the box is retail and the salesman confirmed it. PAYG is £120 with a SIM and £10 credit, SIM free is £135 but it doesn't make any sense to buy it like this since they're unlocked.

Haparrently they are getting the 16GBs at the end of the month. I also checked the free space, it reported at 5.52GB free and I was the first person to switch it on so it has nothing extra on it.

Selling for 169 euros in Germany.

Take a peek the discussion on the Amazon.de page Keith - nobody knows whether that's the 8 or 16GB, but given the price you'd have to assume it's the former for the time being.

Worth pointing out that there's no expandable memory as there's no sd card slot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,566 ✭✭✭GrumPy

Still a great deal. Especially when you have options like Google Drive and Dropbox... Personally, my own phone has 32GB of storage, and I've barely scratched that!

Although, I imagine some people like to keep a lot of media, and access it locally.
Hoping Amazon update the listing with shipping date details soon, interested in getting them for Christmas presents...

To answer my own question, I asked on Twitter and Three, O2 and Vodafone have no plans to stock it, but Meteor (and I assume eMobile, I never asked) do. They can't commit to it being released before Christmas though, which is unfortunate.

May not be a problem for most BUT I don't think this is 4G enabled.

Hardly a big mistake for the networks. - they'd make feck all on selling them I'd say

Which is exactly why they aren't stocking it as they will instead push and sell worse phones that are more expensive, locking them into contracts and won't get updates forcing people to purchase new phones more often making them more money. Do you not know how Ireland works?

Haha yeh.. but if Meteor are the only ones carrying it at a price that's very accessible for their target market (teens) then it does make quite a bit of sense.

Can't find it anywhere but I'd be very surprised if it's not the regular micro SIM.

Also, someone was asking, it doesn't support dual carrier HSDPA (max is 21 mb/s)

Just walk into a 3 store and they'll swap it for you then and there.

You could try cutting it or pop into a store beforehand and ask for a blank micro sim. Then on crimbo day ring up and they will swap it over.

Bring your sim into any phone store, carphone warehouse are just up the road from me and have done it loads of times. You can buy an adapter online or in some euro stores, so when you get it cut you can still use it in the normal phones. A quick google search brings up an Irish website. you can also get them from the ebay and the chinese websites too.

I see moto g on amazon.de as well for €169 but with no storage details.

Annoying Amazon have "available for pre-order" but nothing about actual availability date or shipping estimates. Hoping to buy two for Christmas presents. Try out ParcelMotel for delivery for the first time, too.

According to my Amazon account for the preorder shipping is free to Ireland. No need for Parcel Motel.

Phones4U have a delivery date of 17/12 for delivery. Might be disappointed Irish customers if Amazon is in and around the same.

They are also selling at http://www.unlocked-mobiles.com and says they should receive them on Wednesday 20th. Ordered mine through Parcel Motel and using the GBP price - total was about 198 Eur.

I'm hoping Amazon.co.uk update the listing with estimated shipping dates early next week. Gonna pre-order, but only when I have an idea when they have actual stock, a bit far away from pay-day, too. :D

    From Amazon.co.uk..
    Pre-ordering
Amazon.co.uk often offers items for sale before release. If an item hasn't been released yet you'll be able to see the expected release date on the item's Product Detail page.

You can place an order for one of these items in the same way as you'd order anything else. We won't charge your credit or debit card until we dispatch the order.
