    Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone could recommend a good career advisor in Dublin or Kildare?
I'm 33 and currently working for an American multinational bank in Dublin for a number of years, but looking at a change of career, just a bit lost as to what to do and if it's too late!
Would like to hear the advice of a recommended professional.

    Many thanks in advance!

I can't advise on a good career counsellor, but can I ask are there any areas yourself that interest you e.g it, marketing, sales etc

One quick and easy thing to do is to take the myers Briggs test and see what areas would suit you? Google myers Briggs.

What is your role in bank, what are you doing?

Firstly, read the thread title and expected something totally different :P

What do you want to do with your life ? , are you happy staying in Dublin, do you want to work abroad or travel ?
Do you like working with people, or do you want to work alone ?
Do you prefer a teaching / mentor role, or being on a team, Are you happy sitting at a cubicle looking at a screen or do you want something active ?
Do you like working with your hands ?

    33 is still young :D

Would want to work at home, in the Leinster area. Working a cubicle job as you put it the last 10 years as u put it, and as of late progression has become almost zero, maybe a blessing in disguise to explore other options :-)
I love meeting people and talking and the opportunity to help others really appeals to me. I did consider teaching and have been told by friends and family many times down the years that I was made for the profession, just I guess I'm not a big risk taker and hearing the stories of little/no jobs in teaching has put me off I guess, which is a pity. If I knew for sure I would definitely get work at the end of it is go for it :-)
Remember having a career guideance teacher when in school, should have paid more attention looking back haha! Was just wondering if anyone knew of a similar service for adults?

You could do worse than get a copy of the following book .....

"The 4 Hour Work Week" by Tim Ferriss.

    Hi Bob,

Could you run a night course, I started running a construction based one when I was 30, not offering any qualifications, more of a refresher/intensive study type course for lads sitting exams.
Loved it and it lead me into a permanent training role, and out of construction.
I know our fields are totally different , and the hours might not suit but something to think about.

Try contacting your local ETB(formerly FAS Training Centre or VEC) and ask to speak to a Night Training Manager, they might be able to point you in the right direction.

Well if teaching is something you think you'd enjoy, but as you point out there may not be many positions ....why not broaden this out and become a trainer of some sort. Quite a lot of training companies around across a range of areas e.g it, hrm, sales etc.

There are loads of career guidance people out there. I went to one in Clonakilty in Cork years ago. They're not just in schools. I don't have the number for my guy but the Golden Pages will sort you out.
