Yes. Their engineers are trying to fix it, it's a widespread issue. Eircom are having a lot of issues lately, I wonder why.

Still down this morning. Could someone post this in the eircom forum (if nobody has done so already)?
I can't as I am driving all day.
Edit; someone has thread on it here:http://www.boards.ie/ttfthread/2057200116/2

Apparently, the service was taken down as a preventative measure.

    http://www.independent.ie/business/technology/eircom-urges-email-users-to-change-passwords-after-security-breach-30232171.html

EDIT:Woops, didn't see the post above. No harm quoting the article here anyway I guess.
Eircom has suffered a security breach, leading to the suspension of email services to 350,000 Eircom.net accounts over the last 18 hours.

The company is now urging its email users to change their passwords.

A company spokesman said that the breach was detected on Tuesday.

“Yesterday, we detected an intrusion on the perimeter of our email service,” said the spokesman. “In accordance with our security procedures and industry best practice, we took immediate steps to lock down our email service and eliminate any threat to our 350,000 eircom.net email users. As a precaution, we have alerted relevant bodies including the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.”

The Irish Independent understands that the company has has a team of external IT security experts examining the breach since yesterday.

“At this time, there is no evidence to suggest any impact to other eircom systems or services including customer data,” said the spokesman. “Our investigations will continue into the cause of the intrusion.”

“In line with industry best practice, we strongly recommend that customers change their email account passwords today and on a regular basis.”

“Access to eircom.net email is in the process of being restored in a controlled and phased manner following a decision by eircom to restrict service last night. “

“Staff worked overnight to implement a number of system modifications and we expect all customers to have access by this evening. All pending email traffic has been stored and will be delivered as soon as possible.”

“We are very sorry that this has caused a significant inconvenience to users of our email service.”

My email is back but after I log in the colours of the layout has changed from orange to blue and feels weird.
So I went to change password. These are the instructions…..

    To change your password:
    1. Click the Preferences tab.
    2. In the Overview pane, click General and in Login Options, click Password.
    3. Enter your old password, your new password, and retype your new password to confirm.
    4. Click Change password. Your password has been changed.

I followed them but after I get to ‘Login Options’ there is no option for changing password.
    Somethings up !!

I used it the other month - worked. However now it doesn't change the webmail server backend password.... Although it seems to have changed my password required to change my password.

Another Eircom &^*% up. Let me know if it works for you and then I'll try again.... maybe

I actually changed my password earlier on the initial log-in screen (prior to loading webmail), or at least I thought I did! It said to wait for 40 minutes for change to take effect, but I'm still collecting through POP3 on my old password some 6 hours later.

I just managed to change mine. I had to use the new one (I changed yesterday) on the password change screen to change it to another new one which now works on the webmail server.

My guess is they either had failed password sync between the servers due to network traffic or their patching broke it for a while. So the password change page had updated to expect my new password but the webmail server was still looking for my old password.

Went back in today when the password change on email still hadn't happened. Went into the password change screen (which required the changed password from yesterday) and changed the email password again. Still hasn't updated six hours later. Muppets!

Finally cracked the issue today. Yesterday I was using a 12 character password which was accepted by the password management screen, but this failed to update POP3. Having posted the issue on the eircom forum and read through some of the thread there, I tried a 10 character password and bingo!
Seems there is a discrepancy between the validation on the systems...
