Anyone ever fitted an aftermarket steering wheel?

    Hello all

Thinking of changing the factory yoke on my car. It's gone a bit tatty after 14 years hard service and i wouldn't mind trying out one of these aftermarket racing type wheels, spotted a sparco in particular that looks nice.

insurance company stuff aside for a moment please, Has anyone done this with their own car?
Is it legal in ireland? Any issues with passing the nct?
My car has power steering and of course an airbag (no lectures about removing airbags either please, for those who could be bothered to do so, dont worry about it, it's not your problem)

I wont be doing any of this myself, leave that to the garage, but did anyone have any problems with passing their NCT? maybe an airbag light was lit up on the dash?

Think thats it, cheers for any replies folks :)

Airbag light will come on. This is an NCT fail item.
But, you can make the car think it has an airbag by installing a resistor to the airbag wiring in the steering column. It will then pass its self test and airbag light will extinguish.
Im not messing when I say that this mod could kill you.

It would be one thing if the car did not have an airbag (I fitted a steering wheel to a 99 Accent as the one that was in it was bloody awful), but when it comes to disabling airbags it introduces a whole other layer of complexity. If Im not mistaken, you need to get a cert to say that the airbag was disabled correctly and then update your insurer to let them know (god knows how they would take it...)?

If the steering wheel isnt looking great you might be able to get one in good nick for your car from a scrap yard.

You can get wheels recovered, Ive had mine done with extra padding and half leather half alcantara.

    Its superb,
