I'm travelling to the USA on J1 visa this summer.
Can anyone advise on holiday insurance.
I understand that medical bills are very expensive in USA.

Will ordinary travel insurance to USA be sufficient
or do I need to get 'extra cover' in case of a medical emergency?

Have you any "ordinary" travel insurance in mind?

I've used AIG before, and had emergency medical treatment covered. However, without more info about what you have in mind, it's hard to give advice.

Good luck. I was a J1 visitor to the US many years ago now. I suggest that you read the fine print before purchasing any policy . It may only cover you for 30 days. When I was on holiday in South Carolina about 5 years ago I got 4 stitches in a hospital and it cost $760.

    So definitely get insurance.
