    1200 rpm is the failsafe speed the engine goes to if there's a problem with the accelerator position sensor. I'd find a garage with VAG diagnostics and see what's up.

    It could be a few things really,my guess would be coolant temp sensor, the car thinks the coolant is alot colder than it is so races the engine on start up (cold weather start )

    Where in Dublin are you ? I'm in Kildare and can scan it for you no hassles.

    EDIT: I see you mentioned west Dublin, if you want to travel as far as Naas some evening i can scan it.
